Hoshiyar Puri is a must-visit restaurant in Haridwar, especially for anyone craving authentic North Indian vegetarian cuisine. Located in the bustling heart of the city near Har Ki Pauri, this iconic eatery has been serving delicious food for decades.
One of the standout features of Hoshiyar Puri is its extensive and flavorful menu. They specialize in rich and traditional North Indian dishes, including a variety of paneer curries like Shahi Paneer, Paneer Butter Masala, and Kadhai Paneer, all of which are perfectly cooked with a balance of spices. Their Dal Makhani is another highlight—creamy, well-seasoned, and slow-cooked to perfection. If you love lentils, their Dal Tadka is equally satisfying with its smoky tempering.
For bread lovers, they offer a range of tandoori rotis, butter naans, and stuffed parathas, each fresh, soft, and perfectly complementing the curries. The Chhole Bhature here is another crowd favorite, featuring fluffy bhaturas with spicy, flavorful chickpeas. If you’re looking for something simple yet satisfying, their Aloo Gobhi and Mix Veg are excellent choices.
No meal here is complete without indulging in their desserts. Their Gulab Jamun is soft and syrupy, melting in your mouth, while the Kheer offers a comforting, homely taste.
The ambiance of the restaurant is simple yet lively, with a constant rush of visitors. The service is fast, and the staff is courteous despite the heavy crowd. Given the generous portions and reasonable prices, it’s an excellent spot for families and food lovers alike.
If you're in Haridwar and looking for an authentic, soul-satisfying North Indian meal, Hoshiyar Puri is the place to be. Highly...
Read moreGood food, average service — rice kheer is a must-try!
We visited Hoshiyar Puri while looking for a decent place to sit and eat during our trip, and it turned out to be one of the better options in the area. The ambiance is simple but clean, with comfortable seating, which can be hard to come by around the busy streets nearby.
The food itself was quite good. Traditional North Indian fare, nicely spiced and flavorful. Among all the dishes we tried, the highlight was definitely the rice kheer — rich, creamy, and perfectly sweetened. I would absolutely recommend trying it if you visit.
However, the service left much to be desired. The staff didn’t seem very attentive or well-coordinated. We had to wait quite a while before our order was taken, and even longer for the food to arrive. It wasn’t overly crowded when we went, so this was a bit disappointing. A little more efficiency and attention would really improve the overall experience.
Another thing to note is the pricing. While not exorbitant, the prices do feel slightly high for the kind of setup and service offered. You’re essentially paying more for the convenience of finding a clean and reputable place to eat in the area.
Overall, Hoshiyar Puri is a decent choice if you’re in the neighborhood and want good vegetarian food in a clean setting — just manage your expectations on service and be prepared for a slight premium in price. Worth it for the...
Read moreI found this restraunt via a family friend and trust me this serves the food in haridwar. Haridwar is a frequently visited place in Indian household and sometimes at these tourist spots you don't find good and value friendly food but this one is amazing. Though we had ordered many things but the best from here was 'dal makhni'....living in the heart of India 'Delhi' I hadn't had such nice dal makhni...it was so buttery and yummy. Also for the people who prefer less spices and a bit homelike food...this restraunt is for you. We had, had our dinner and here on thw day we reached and breakfast the other morning. For breakfast you get stuffed parathas of various types. This provides you a nice ambience of between a typical restraunt and a dhaba...the sitting area is 4-5 stairs down. Although we were told that there would be waiting here but thankfully tables were available both the times. In all a really nice place to have 'desi' homelike food in a...
