The Orchard Despite all the hype and good feedback from friends about The Orchard, my recent lunch experience there was disappointingly ordinary. The ambience, however, was truly exceptional. The beautifully crafted wooden structure evoked a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the houses in Kerala from the 1980s. The furniture, especially the ancient-looking wooden tables and chairs, was exquisite and added to the charm. The outdoor seating area provided a romantic atmosphere with a stunning view of the farm fields in the foreground and the mountains in the background, all enveloped in lush greenery.
Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the surroundings. We ordered Vegetable Dim Sums, Vegetable Hakka Noodles, Vegetable Fried Rice, and Stir-Fried Veggies in Sweet and Sour Sauce. To our disappointment, all the dishes were quite ordinary. The worst offender was the Hakka Noodles, which were overcooked. The Sweet and Sour Stir-Fried Veggies were excessively sweet, and the Fried Rice was nothing special. Adding to the frustration was the fact that the noodles and fried rice were served before the dim sums, which disrupted the flow of our meal.
What made the experience even more disheartening was the lack of attentive service. No one checked on the quality of the food or asked if we needed anything special. This lack of hospitality further marred our visit.
Overall, The Orchard's incredible ambience and decor could not compensate for the very ordinary food and lackluster service. It was a disappointing experience that did not live up to...
Read moreI recently visited Orchard with high hopes, but unfortunately, it turned out to be quite underwhelming especially when it came to food and service.
We ordered two cheesecakes: the Mango and Hazelnut. Both were, quite frankly, terrible. I’ve had cheesecakes at plenty of places, and these were among the worst I’ve tried. Oddly lemony, off in texture, and just didn’t taste right.
We also tried a few savory dishes. The Lemon iced tea was actually quite good, so that was a brief high point. The Veg Pishi Thukpa was a mixed experience the gravy was nice, but the momos in it were undercooked, which ruined the dish overall. The regular Veg Thukpa was better flavorful and filling, although a bit heavy.
I also had the Truffle Mushroom Baos you get just three pieces, and they’re quite dense, but taste-wise they were decent. Not bad. On the flip side, the cheese momos were absolutely awful. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.
Service was honestly a letdown. When we arrived, menus were placed behind us but no staff came by to hand them over or even take our order. We had to ask twice for someone to come attend to us, which is never a great start.
The one saving grace is the ambience. The place looks lovely, and if you’re just going to sit and chat over something simple (and if you know what’s safe to order), it might work. But if you're hungry and looking for a solid meal, this isn’t the place.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend Orchard unless you're specifically going for the vibe and maybe a drink or two. For food and service, it sadly...
Read moreOrchard is an institution for anyone in Dehradun and surrounding cities. One visit to the famous Orchard is a part of bucket list for almost everyone coming here. It's been here for ages. The hero, be mindful is not the food, it's the location, the ambience and the whole environment around it. Most first-timers come here expecting extraordinary food and come out disappointed. Nothing wrong with the food, but nothing spectacular as well. So visit for 3/5 food for 7/5 ambience.
Visited 14/08/2025 - sharing a fresh experience - Reached around 1015 pm. From the staff at the cash counter to most of the servers - they were just too upset to see customers walking in at that time, to the extent that they just didn't want to serve us. We wanted to sit outside and were told there are no tables available in the open. Now if you come to Orchard on a rainy night, you gotta sit outside. I usually desist from criticising individuals but need to make 2 special mentions. Ms. Jyoti who seemed like a senior serving staff was a classic example of what all customer service should NOT be. I spoke with the staff serving outside myself to help us get a table. Server Deepak came to the rescue and spoke to a couple who were sitting on a table for 6 and shifted them to a table for 2. Overall Deepak was an absolute gem helping us with our order and food service. He put in great recommendations and everything was top notch. Do try the eclairs, apple pie and ny cheese cake. They...
