Went to this restaurant on the instance of our family friends who happen to be bengalis for bengali ONLY cuisine. I must admit that their snacks section ie fish cutlets & mocha (banana flower) chops were outstanding and heavenly 😋. Their aam panna twist was equally tempting and outstanding. BUT food wise I wasn't at all impressed. I told the owner repeatedly that am only here for tasting your bengali cuisine and now the onus is on you how to serve me. Ordered non veg thali with mutton kosha. The size of the thali is about a dining plate made of some alloy. Apart from the mutton bowl the size of other bowls were very small. There were chana dal, paneer dish ( which was north Indian & Chinese mix) and definitely not bengali, small bowl of sweet( kheer or payesh), begun( brinjal fry) bhaja with some potato chips and very small bowl of mango chutney. I opted for chapati & rice so was given 4 tava chapatis which were horrible 😫. Very hard & thin like papad, and a bowl of rice accompanied by half piece of fry papad and onion as salad. NO ADDITIONAL HELPING. Mishti doi ( sweet curd & half plate rice charged additional). Ordered prawn malai curry for my wife which she said was sweet and tasted as if made in coconut oil. I was expecting a great bengali dinner but somehow felt cheated. I shared my experience with my friends and they were equally surprised. They too felt that I was given a raw deal. But again am making this very clear that their snacks section ie fish cutlets & mocha chops are more than outstanding and if I make another visit here in the future I shall go only for snacks and definitely not for...
Read moreThe words are just not enough to describe this place. I thought I m going to just have a dinner. But it was more than that when I left that place. First look at the place, it was vacantñm and we started having second thoughts. But then the owner made us so comfortable with his chit chat...gosh that warmth with which he spoke... Then came the food... And then came more customers. With every bite, not only I got the fantabulous taste of the food, but also that the customers are repeaters to this restaurant. The best part of this restaurant was the home made food ( yes...not all restaurants can make you nostalgic about home). It absolutely went way above of my expectations. And the next best thing was the mother who was shuttling between the kitchen and customers, asking them if the food was palatable. This warmth of treating people with such True affection and with such amazing delicious food... is RARE. Thank you @thebongtwist for such hospitality.
P.S. idk if it'll have any negative impact on their business, but rather than ordering food .... go , sit...
Read moreThe Bong Twist in Dehradun offers a chance to try Bengali cuisine, and the food is flavorful, but there are a few areas that could be improved. The Fish Curry I tried was a bit salty, and while the flavor was good, it wasn’t quite perfect.
The atmosphere was another letdown. The restaurant felt quite dull and lacked energy—there was no one else there except for us, which made the experience feel less lively. The ambiance could definitely use a boost to make the dining experience more enjoyable.
Service was okay, but a bit slow. The staff was polite, though, and the restaurant was clean. However, considering the pricing, I felt the value for money wasn’t quite there, especially with the quiet and somewhat unwelcoming environment.
Overall, The Bong Twist has potential but could use some improvements in both ambiance and food consistency. It’s worth trying if you’re craving Bengali food, but I’d recommend managing your...
