Read moreI would probably say that “ Nori “ has the best ambience amongst all the restaurants in Kolkata . Having authentic Asian cuisine sitting in 31st floor and enjoying the view was absolute delight . Went there on 1st week of January so as per rules there was fewer staff than normally would but service was still top notch .
Coming to the food ( Opted for a la carte )
Spicy Chicken Coriander Dim sum - 10/10 (₹450)
( Have had many Dim sums from variety of places but this was undoubtedly one of the best dim sum I had ever had . The outside part was sticky and almost melts in your mouth then comes the juicy slightly spiced chicken part . The whole thing was textural and flavourful that I didn’t even bother to try it with the sauces they served )
Pepper Pork - 09/10 (₹950 )
( I tend to love anything that includes pork and this was no exception. The sliced pork belly being cooked with fermented beans and chilli bean and other essentials . The meat was cooked well and seasoning was absolutely on point . The dish was wholesome with generous portion being served )
Wok tossed udon noodles in black paper sauce - 09/10 ( ₹650 )
( Udon noodles is versatile and tastes good with just about anything . This noodles was nice and chewy so there’s no doubt about the freshness of the noodles. The noodles tasted even more tastier with the pepper pork on side )
Matcha Cheesecake - 07/10 (₹550)
( The cheesecake was fine but I was expecting more . I have had better matcha cheesecake at much lower price and about doubt the portion compared to this one )
Cocktail -
Tom Yum Siam - 09/10 (₹650 )
( Made with Sake which is Japanese origin made by fermenting rice kaffirlime , basil , lemon glass & bud eye chilli . This was my first time trying this cocktail and I loved how it gives a spicy hint moments after devouring the drink )
I’ll always keep this on my wish list for any special occasion. Overall I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone willing to go for fine dining experience. The rich culture within the restaurant itself is a wonderful sight to see accompanied with the...
Read moreWe visited Nori for Christmas Lunch (2021). This was the first time in 10 years that my wife and I were in India for Christmas, so were really looking forward to a great dining experience with the parents. It started off well, lovely views of Rajarhat from the 31st Floor, a table by the window, some amazing sushi and salad to begin with. But it all started going downhill from there. We waited for over 45 minutes for the main course. And not that we ordered something specific that takes time to cook, rather we were waiting for the bog standard buffet menu that would be served to the table. We requested waiting staff after waiting staff and they would just politely acknowledge and walk away without bothering to find out for us how long the wait is likely to be. The lunch arrived after what seemed like ages. It was pretty ordinary and regular Indo-Chinese food that Chowman down the road does a much better job about. Kuntal Shamanta, the Manager on duty, wanted to know about our experience and we couldn’t help but let our disappointment known. Kuntal was polite and apologetic and wanted us to give Nori a second chance later on. My heart goes out for Kuntal but I doubt I am paying a bomb for such a poor experience ever again. The waiting staff attending to our table, and I am refraining from naming him, was heard complaining to the guests at the next table about how an ala-carte restaurant struggles to cater to a buffet style menu when there are multiple orders at a time. Well, a 5 star establishment should have been able to plan better when the guests pay over INR 3000 per head excluding alcohol. Finally, the Dessert selection was ordinary and monotonous with 10 different varieties of cake of various colours. It might well be a very different restaurant on a non-festive day, but I didn’t ask them to change what they are good at, demand a hefty price and spoil Christmas for the guests. It is a pretty place alright, but it wasn’t worth my...
