I wanted to visit Hanglaatherium from long time because somehow, I got influenced by their social media promotions. The ads were so well made that I started to believe that they make great Biryani like Arsalan and Aminia.
Went to their New Town branch, I must say very odd location, very basic ambience and absolutely empty at evening time. But surprisingly their prices were as high as any premium dine in restaurant so I started to believe they're going to serve some delicious food and ordered all of their specialty at once.
Dilli 6 @ Rs.570 (4/5) We started with this kebab and it tasted very nice. It was like Afghani Tandoori chicken mixed with mint chutney served with 1 Tandoori Roti.
Nargisi Kabab @ Rs.400 (1/5) They call it specialty but I call it a scam. It was just Bengali Dimer Chop, masala wrapped outside in place of inside. As expected, it tasted same as dimer chop, it's just that Duck Egg was used.
But 2 pcs of Duck Egg that comes in the market for Rs.13 each they charge Rs.400 for it. Also served with a deep fried bhatura, they called it paratha but it was not. Oily bhatura with Dimer Chop was a complete disaster. They really know how to fool people.
Chicken Pasanda @ Rs.275 (2/5) They made this chicken shredded dish in a different way than any Mughal restaurant. White gravy, bit sweet but creamy flavours were missing unlike other places. Very average in taste.
Mutton Hanglaabari @ Rs.565 (2/5) A revision of Golbari type Kasha Mangso, pitch black in looks, burned and bitter in taste. If you're a fan of Golbari you might like it, but personally I'm not very fond of this. Although mutton pieces were good but it smelt.
Mutton Biryani @ Rs.320 (2/5) Hanglaatherium's speciality is Biryani that doesn't mean it's good and everyone will like it. It was far different from Kolkata style Biryani, in fact I can hardly call it Biryani.
No fragrance, no flavours, absolutely dry felt like rice was kept under fan to dry and then refrigerated for 3-4 days after that microwaved and served.
Biryani was so dry that it was inedible on its own, you must have to have some gravy side dish. But as suggested by their staff Hanglaabari & Pasanada both didn't went well with their Biryani, rather it made it even worse.
Nothing special about mutton piece too, it was ordinary but again the fatty texture and the juiciness of the meat was completely missing. One of our potatoes came out as hard. Only good thing about their Biryani was portion size, nothing else.
Conclusion Our bill for 4 was around Rs.3000 that I think is quite high for their basic ambience, very odd location and peculiar food quality.
I do understand the high prices are to compensate their multiple outlets and promotions by influencers, still they could've maintained good if not the best quality food. But it seemed their business strategy is not to...
Read moreLocation - Location is good if you are using private transport. Ample parking space on the road and some unused private plots. 4/5 if you are using private transport. 3/5 if you are using public transport.
Ambience - Very average. It's not a fine dine dining. It's just a roadside seating arrangement with air conditioning. They haven't mentioned this as a fine dining either. So, that's okay. More or less comfortable . Since the owner/management haven't mentioned this as fine dining, so it's a 4/5.
Service - Average. The service personale did wear a smile always though. Service could have been more prompt. But the person serving us was courteous enough. 3/5.
Now, coming to the most important attribute. I.e. the food.
4a. Masala Cold drinks - Average. They prepared the cold drinks with lemon, chat masala and salt. It could be improved by additional usage of Gondhoraj lemon and coriander leaves. A small change can bring in much better results. 3/5.
4b. Nargisi Kebab - Over hyped and average. The egg used was normal duck egg. It can be replaced with desi duck egg. Even desi murgi egg can bring in better results. The mutton coating was bland. Can be improved with usage of more spice which would give it a subtle spicier taste. If you do not intend to change the mutton coating recipe, then change of the egg used can bring in better results. 3/5.
4c. The paratha that was served with Nargisi kebab - Stiff but crunchy. If stiffness was a side effect of the crunch then it could have been softer inside. Chef need to look into it. 3/5.
4d. Mutton Hanglabari - Good taste. Had a very subtle flavour of garam masala which was very enjoyable. It had a bitter after taste though. Can can be tackled very easily. 4/5. Mutton quality was of A1 category. Very good.
4e. Tandoori Laccha - Very good taste. Soft. But a bit under cooked. It can differ with each serving though. Not a big problem.
So, that's it....
Read moreIt's been long that I explored any new restaurant. Last weekend, I decided to visit Hanglatherium new town branch. It's a tiny restaurant and 16-18 people can sit at a time. But the environment is quiet and that's what I like. It's not much crowded because local people are getting free delivery directly from restaurant. Anyway let's get to the point - FOOD. We ordered - Cheesy Tandoori, Nargisi Kebab, Mutton biriyani and Mutton hanglabari.
Cheesy Tandoori stands out. It was outstanding. The melted cheese on top of tandoori was really new to me and I really enjoyed. The only drawback is the tandoori pieces are very small but it tastes superb.
Nargisi kebab is a signature dish in this restaurant. Eggs of duck wrapped in mutton keema. Very good taste but I believe galawati kebab will still win the race.
Mutton biriyani is very light and I liked it very much. Many popular restaurant makes tasty biriyani but their biriyani mostly are oily, heavy in spices. I personally struggle to finish a full biriyani after having starters. But here, I finished at ease. Even my little daughter enjoyed the biriyani.
Mutton Hanglabari is also excellent. It's probably an improvised version of golbari mutton kosha. The dish is a little sweet. So if you like spicy, try to avoid
The restaurant provided complementary lime soda and a maza to my little daughter. Overall experience is very good. I hear about another signature kebab of them - Dilli 6. I will try...
