We , meat lovers always think more than twice while steping inside a vegetarian restaurant . There is always a feeling inside us which says that veg food is nothing at all when compared to non veg dishes . But I feel fortunate enough to visit a place like Urban masala which clearly gives a strong statement in terms of vegetarian cuisine .

Urban masala is located in the lane adjacent to Jaya cinema at Lake Town . Clearly they have brought a revolution in vegetarian food ,its glory has spread very fast among citizens of Kolkata . Taking about the ambience firstly it has nice quotes hung on the walls all around , comfy sofas and chairs to give you a fine dining experience. With prompt service staffs are extremely polite and helpful. What cheers me up the most is the cost attached to all items in the menu card. We mainly focused on their Indian cuisine with only few exceptions.

We kicked off with the perfectly balanced virgin mojito . It had the right amount of sweet and fizz in it . Then the tandoori platter took the stage on fire . It consisted of mainly 4 kebabs - tandoori alu, tandoori paneer tikka , tandoori mushroom and veg seekh kebab. With perfectly added spice and we'll cooked centre each of the kebabs itself was a stand out dish for me. Of which mushrooms has be my favourite. Even the alu was full of flavours , it wasn't a regular alur dom which is available on the roadside .

For the mains we had 4 types of Indian breads . Cheese naan , garlic naan ,butter naan and masala kulcha . Cheese naan which we paired with daal makhani, paneer butter masala , malai kofta and vegetable jhal farezi. Each of them had its own posistives . Only I feel that the malai kofta was overly sweetened . Veg jhal farezi had various vegetables mixed in a mildly spicy gravy . Daal makhani is the stand out among them . But I also loved the pairing of garlic naan with paneer butter masala. The masala kulcha had good amount of masalas stuffed inside and hence it came up to be my favourite among the breads section . It surpassed the goodness of the cheese naans .

Not to mention we also had the vegetable biriyani that most people prefer to call as veg polao , but I have hardly seen a polao with whole cooked potatoes in it . Hence i guess the misconception is settled for now. The rice was perfectly cooked with less oil and not much spices , it had carrots , cottage cheese ,peas and other vegetables to make up for its meaty counterpart . It was served with a raita which I forgot to taste as I was busy with the more popular items .

To slightly change our palate we had the veg au gratin from the continental section . Vegetables like peas bell peppers carrots mixed with lots and lots of cheese and baked in the over to crisp up the top layer . This dish is a heaven for cheese lovers .

With our stomachs almost full , the desserts arrived . Tutty fruity being the first one impressed from the first sight . Served inside a glass topped with wafer and chocolate sticks they call for immediate consumption . Made up of different layers of ice cream flavours mixed with lots of freshly cut fruits this dessert is not only tasty but also a healthy option .

It was succeeded by a plate of hot brownie with cold ice cream scoop of vanilla placed over it , drizzled with chocolate sauce . Being a brownie lover I instantly feel in love with the dish and it the flavours didn't disappoint me at all . It was perfectly baked brownie with a goey chocolaty centre which occupied a place in my heart .

Lastly the paan kulfi ended the meal . It is also one of their signature dessert and they are the best in it. Flavoured with beetle leaves and served with gulkand on the side this will make you return to this place again and again.

In a nutshell being a hardcore meat lover I came home with a full stomach and a smile on my face so rest is upto you to...

Earlier I used to think that going to veg cuisine is just a waste of money till I visited urban masala and things are changed now and I no longer think its a waste of money because the kind of food and the quality that they are serving is remarkable. Every dish we have tried is awesome and I suggest you all kindly visit this place and you will have a great experience. The ambiance and the service are also commendable. Please do visit.

Items we have tried:- Starter:-

1.Crispy Chili Potato(₹155)= a popular Indian food which is prepared with potato wedges and spicy Asian sauce. another variation to this recipe is the honey chili potato recipe and schezwan chili potatoes recipe. it is typically consumed served as snacks as appetizers or snacks but can also be served as a side dish to fried rice or even noodles recipe.

2.Hara Bhara Kabab(₹185)= Hara bhara kabab are pan-fried spiced patties made with a mix of spinach, green peas, and potatoes. The recipe is easy to make and healthy as well – since it has the best of both spinach and green peas.

3.Tandoori Platter(₹385) = It has paneer, mushroom, and 3 kababs which are in the shape of Sikhs but the ingredient that is used is a mix of spinach and potatoes. It has a sour taste when it goes to the mouth but the ultimate taste is good. It has a different texture and taste and everyone should try it out.

4.American Corn Salt and Pepper(₹180) = American Corn Pepper Salt is a healthy wholesome gourmet recipe that is made with batter-fried corn kernels and stir-fried with a host of veggies. It is a simple western dish.

5.Salad = Same as it is in most restaurants.

Main Course:-

1.Kadai paneer(₹200) = one of the popular paneer based main dish or gravy based curry recipe mainly served with roti or naan. basically, the paneer is cooked in a tomato and onion based gravy with a special spice powder known as Kadai masala. the spice powder adds a unique flavor and taste to the curry compared to the other paneer curries.

2.Dal makhani(₹185) = This Dal Makhani recipe is a restaurant-style version with subtle smoky flavors and creaminess of the lentils. If you love authentic Punjabi food then you are going to love this Dal Makhani even more.

3.Veg Biryani(₹190) = an easy and simple dum style cooked biriyani recipe made with marinated paneer cubes and long grain rice. it is an ideal vegetarian biriyani alternative to the non-meat eaters or for paneer lovers. the recipe is easy to make and can be easily served for afternoon lunch boxes or for late-night weekend dinner.

4.Amritsari Chole(₹175) = Traditional Amritsari Chole is an authentic recipe that gives the Punjabi chole a rich dark color and tastes delicious from the freshly made Amritsari chole masala. When you travel to Amritsar, regions around Punjab, Delhi, and surroundings, this is a popular and most common staple which gets served. Walk into any Dhaba on the highway, you will find this delicious Amritsari Chole served along with freshly made Kulcha or Naan.

5.Garlic Nun, Butter nun, Masala kulcha(₹80,₹60,₹80) = These are leavened bread made using all-purpose flour. It is extremely popular in the Indian subcontinent. It is made with basic ingredients like flour, oil, yeast, milk. One can also make naan without yeast but I prefer the version with yeast.

6.Veg Hakka Noodles(₹160) = A vegetable noodles recipe prepared in Hakka cuisine style. it is a popular street food of India and is usually served as starters or even for the main course.

A beautiful place just beside Jaya Cinema hall . It's interior is beautifully decorated. The walls are decorated with frames of food quotes and artificial flowers are hung from the ceiling. Then those white walls with brick pattern really gives aesthetic vibes. They have very comfortable sitting arrangement both in chair and sofas. The staffs are lovely over there, their behaviour is excellent. They were very polite and cooperative.

In STARTERS we took tandoori platter, Hara bhara Kabab and American corn salt & pepper. The TANDOORI PLATTER consists of tandoori of paneer , potato, mushroom. The paneer was very soft and delicious. The mushroom was nice in taste. The flavour of potato was lovely. The given amount it was sufficient for two. The HARA BHARA KABAB was very delicious and tastes incredible with the dhaniya chatney given along with it. The AMERICAN CORN SALT AND PEPPER was very light and the flavour it was lovely.

In CHINESE MAIN COURSE we took chilli potato gravy and veg Hakka noodles along with it. The quality of noodles was great and the portion given was enough for one person the taste of noodle preparation was lovely. In the chilli potato gravy ,the gravy was awesome in taste .There was a thin crunchy coating on the potato pieces. The portion of Chilli potato given was enough for 2 person.

In INDIAN MAIN COURSE we took palak paneer, masala kulchas, dal makhani, garlic naans ,amritsari chhole ,veg biryani and kadai paneer. PALAK PANEER: The paneer was very soft and felt very fresh. The gravy was incredible in taste. The portion was more than enough for one person. DAL MAKHANI: The gravy was thick and creamy which really gives a lovely feeling when you have it along with any kind of naan or roti. AMRITSARI CHOLE: It was great in taste and very flavourful. KADAI PANEER: here the paneer is stirred along with chopped onions capsicum and the other necessary masala. the gravy was lovely in taste. MASALA KULCHA: The stuffing inside the masala kulcha was great and flavourful . It will taste awesome , even of you have it without dipping it into anything. VEG BIRYANI: The veg biryani was nice in taste and it had paneer and potatoes inside .Once again the paneer felt very fresh and soft. I absolutely love the potatoes as it was so flavourful. The portion given was enough for 1 average person.

In DESSERTS we took Kesari rasmalai and paan kulfi. Their desserts are the best . KESARI RASMALAI: It was soft , flavourful and delicious. You will definitely cherish each and every bite of it. PAAN KULFI:This was the best thing I had over there. I just Absolutely loved flavour. They blanded the paan favour with kulfi very perfectly.

Location: 882, Lake Town Road, Near Jaya Cinema Hall, Kolkata. Dishes: -Manchow Soup. -Khow Suey. -Veg Tandoori Platter. -Hara Bhara Kebab. -Veg Lasagne. -Veg Biryani. -Butter Garlic Naan. -Masala Kulcha. -Paneer Butter Masala. -Corn Palak. -Dal Makhani. -Tutti Frutti. -Brownie with Icecream. -Paan Kulfi. This restaurant has a modest ambiance in general but they have an amazing range of vegetarian dishes to try. 1. Starting with the soups; the first soup was a Manchow Soup, with a tangy yet spicy flavour. Nothing uncommon, was a regular good soup. The second soup was a Burmese Khow Suey, and it was probably my favourite one. It had a mild taste because of the vegetables and coconut milk and also had alot of other contrasting condiments to spice up the soup. 2. Next were the starters, The Tandoori Platter was a combination of Panner, Mushroom, Potato and Veg Sikh Kebab. Each and every kebab were pretty flavourful and were served with the classic mint chutney. The second kebab was the Hara Bhara Kebab, it was also a vegetable kebab but had a cheesy filling inside which made it stand out, in short those starters were good. 3. I personally liked their Veg Lasagne, it had a slight tangy flavour and was super cheesy filled with vegetables and sause. 4. Their briyani made me amazed, this was my first time trying Veg Biryani but it was pretty good. All the flavours were just right and it was just like a normal good Dum Biryani except with paneer slices. 5. Paneer Butter Masala was a perfect balance of sweet and creamy and went well with the Biryani, Garlic Naan and Masala Kulcha. Dal Makhani went to the savory side and had a good kick to it with a lil bit of creamy texture. Corn Palak was also a very good preparation. I'm generally not a huge fan of corn but i liked this dish alot more than i expected. It was sweet, creamy and had a savory kick. 6. Tutti Frutti, it was a refreshing dessert. The fresh fruits with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream was a beautiful combination. Paan Kulfi, it takes over the classic "meetha paan" taste with some added flavors. A pretty good choice to cleanse your palate after a huge meal. Brownie with Ice cream was my favorite one, those brownies had a very good and fudge consistency, not too overpowering with the sweetness and the ice cream on top with chocolate sause drizzle complimented the whole concoction. This place has a very simple, elegant ambiance. Hospitable staffs and pretty good selection of vegetation dishes to try. A good places to come over for a hearty lunch/dinner with friends and family.

In a nutshell being a hardcore meat lover I came home with a full stomach and a smile on my face so rest is upto you to decide . Cheers

Items we have tried:- Starter:- 1.Crispy Chili Potato(₹155)= a popular Indian food which is prepared with potato wedges and spicy Asian sauce. another variation to this recipe is the honey chili potato recipe and schezwan chili potatoes recipe. it is typically consumed served as snacks as appetizers or snacks but can also be served as a side dish to fried rice or even noodles recipe. 2.Hara Bhara Kabab(₹185)= Hara bhara kabab are pan-fried spiced patties made with a mix of spinach, green peas, and potatoes.
