I had a very nice time at Tryst Café with a friend of mine - until a staff member rudely interrupted my lunch and asked me and my friend to exit the premises.
I usually don't like to talk about negative experiences at places cause in most cases it comes down to a case of the staff having a bad day, rather than it being an indicator of the actual hospitality / quality of the services / food provided. But this particular man - whom I'd only interacted once earlier at reception when entering the cafe - made it a point to be downright aggressive to me and my friend, without even giving us the grace of explaining what the problem is or giving us a chance to respond / accomodate their requests.
to provide context on what happened from my side - my friend and I were having a regular lunch filled with smiles and casual conversation - and the particular spot we were seated at was under the direct outlet of a AC wind outlet - so we got cold pretty quickly. we'd asked the staff to turn down the cold once already and a member of staff immediately accommodated us and turned off the AC - which we appreciated. it was turned on again (presumably on some other customers request), which we didn't mind at all. But after a while it got very cold for us again, so my friend - who is smaller than me - took the back support pillow they had provided on their seat and put it on top of him to protect him from the cold. and he also ended up scooting towards me to protect him further from the cold. we weren't disturbing anyone else, we were just smiling and laughing and having our own private conversation, until this one particular member of staff came and pulled the pillow from my friend and kept saying "what do you think you're doing, this is a public space" or something along those lines and asked us to immediately get out - at which point I just asked for the bill, paid, and left cause I did not feel safe or comfortable with the withheld aggressive tone and attitude of his comments. I'm not sure if this is a purely homophobic act or if it's just a moral panic act - but eitherways, I feel like this could've been handled better and any problem they had with us be expressed in a better / more polite way so we can communicate and iron out any knots the management had with us.
this was an incredibly disappointing experience and mildly threatening and I'm sad that this has colored my otherwise fun lunch at Tryst Café. My appreciation for all the other members of staff for the excellent service and the chefs for the excellent meal.
Management, I hope you have a talk with the specific person I had this experience with cause I don't think he should come out of today's experience thinking this is an acceptable way to treat the...
Read moreSince I returned to Chennai many friends suggested this place for a good food and chilling with family and friends I have explored so many places in ECR and everytime I pass by this cafe
I have bought some of their cakes and desserts on the go but dining was pending. Whatever I bought on the go was nice. Their eclair, cakes and breads. Nothing overwhelming but nice
Today after hoisting the flag and it was around 9'30 so decided to visit tryst cafe to have something like a brunch. Called them before leaving and they said dining is there and breakfast available.
As soon as I enter, I politely asked a staff, can I take pictures of the cakes and desserts. He declined not sure why. After I mentioned and showed my social media pages, he agreed to take pics.
First thing you notice is every staff is walking up and down busily but nobody mentioned where to sit and gave the menu. What will a 8yr kid and vegetarian like to have ? Either waffle or pancake with maple syrup. Unfortunately both were not available. The staff suggested French toast as it is same like waffle and pancake. Didn't understand the logic but said okay.
My wife is vegetarian and asked for veg options. Hash brown is the only veg dish was the response. I was baffled because while entering I saw too many things.
I go to counter and see Quiche and saw them making Pizza so ordered. He said order should be given from table. Returned and the staff said you have to order from the counter. I was like what's happening. Communication gap between 4 staffs who were present at that time.
Finally Quiche and veg pizza arrived. In fact the only dish everyone enjoyed was the rectangle pizza. Quiche was ok could have more cheese and herb. French toast was okay and scrambled egg was cold.
After 20mins I reminded the staff that there is no cutlery and he gets it. Same with salt and pepper.
I am sorry, I came with a huge expectation but experience was not even close. The desserts are good, cakes are very nice and we also got some take away. But the staffs could do a better work. While stepping out I saw a person eating beef burger but it wasn't there in the menu and nobody informed.
May be we went very early so the staff weren't prepared or this place is only good for delivery. Dining is not their forte.
Spent almost 1.7k for this and guess what. We went to a proper breakfast place and ate dosa, idli and coffee. That's when we were content. Bill was less than 50% of what Tryst Cafe charged ,🙄
May be it was one bad day in office but unfortunately it...
Read moreJust walked out after a pathetic experience. The restaurant has been taken over by Shiraz. We ordered a mushroom egg cheese croissant sandwich and it came sloppily plated with some fries strewn in the corner. After having a bite, we realised that there were no mushrooms, and lifted the croissant to see a wilted lettuce, a piece of omelette cheese and possibly some mayo. We had to wait to get the attention of one of the lady stewards and even then somehow she couldnr understand us when we said 'No mushrooms' When we thought she got it, she shrugged her shoulders & looked at us as if- 'What can I do about it'. I told her to get us a sandwich with mushrooms and she finally took the plate back. After about 15 mins, she came back with the plate. It was the same sandwich we had taken a bite of- they had opened the croissant and put some mushrooms in it! I was appalled, the lady was smiling thinking that she had solved our problem & we were already running late so we just gobbled whatever was that. Now sitting in the cab, both me and husband regret eating that sandwich- it wasn't tasty and we aren't feeling that great right now.
So here is my 2 cents- They charge fine dining prices- pastas & pizzas are over 400 bucks, their bakery items are overpriced, but they lack finesse in their food plating & service. The place is run by a bunch of waiters wirhout any real accountability and now with Shiraz stepping in, and both menus available for diners, the experience is even more skewered than before. I had to ask the security guard for water and we were not provided any cutlery for our food. And having dined here in multiple occassions, I have experienced this lack of service time & again.
A word on the ambience: it appears that they were closed for renovations but apart from a fresh coat of paint, everything still looks the same. And it's boring. The place has been around for years now, it's time they invested in creating something more wholesome & in tune with times.
I really hope the management take note of this review and seriously consider an overhaul of their operations. The saving grace has always been good food, but we can no longer ignore or accept...
