Great food, great vibes, and most importantly, dinner with great company! 😀
If you ever find yourself in Bali, don’t miss a meal at @bastardo.bali, a restaurant that refuses to be just another typical food spot. Bastardo offers an inventive concept they call “Asian Bastardized” cuisine.
Here, “bastardized” doesn’t simply mean fusion—mixing different (and sometimes seemingly contradictory) ingredients to create a new taste. It’s also about experimenting with unconventional cooking techniques. The result? Food and drinks that are unique yet still carry a touch of familiarity—difficult to describe, but easy to love once you taste them.
Take, for example, one of their signature dishes: warm roti prata with yogurt, Grana Padano cheese, Aji Verde, coriander, and red cabbage pickle with kidney bean hummus. Or Ossi Bucci, an Italian classic given a twist, served with polenta and hoisin sauce. Then there’s The Octopussy, a grilled octopus dish—its name a playful nod to the classic James Bond 007 film—served with a pink “opor” gravy.
The drinks are just as imaginative, with names like Tonic Soprano and Strawberry Caramel Falcone, cheeky tributes to the infamous Tony Soprano and the judge Giovanni Falcone.
Bottom line: Bastardo Bali is a place you shouldn’t miss when visiting the island. Come for a meal, a drink, a chat, or even just to meet Yuhuu, their irresistibly cute “semi-mutant” Corgi! 😀
I’ll definitely be back. Congratulations to @tamaranca and the entire Bastardo Bali crew for creating such a wonderful and delicious dining...
Read moreBastardo is a true gem. A casual fine dining Asian fusion experience, atmospheric deep house music with top tier service and a mascot corgi!
The wontons are some of the best I’ve come across. I say this as a Chinese woman. The fusion of Vietnamese pho and Chinese wontons hit the mark. The octopus was cooked to perfection. Not pictured: the tres leches dessert. Light and fluffy, perfect to end. A must have! However I do agree with the below that cocktails need some finessing.
What brought this restaurant up a notch was the service. Genuine warmth and heart in their art. Tamara shared the inspiring story behind Bastardo’s inception. The recycled tables, sourced from a warehouse employing strictly disabled workers, reflects the restaurant's commitment to inclusivity and sustainability. Not to mention the corgi Yoohoo as a charming mascot.
Chefs kiss and a must visit! I write as I sit here again, this time for brunch. Also great to work from as a digital nomad....
Read moreSuch a fun and easygoing place with beautiful food. The chef takes utter pride in their delicious and beautifully designed menu. Assistants yoohoo (corgi) and ponzu (dachshund) were the cherry on top!
There were a few items on the menu that weren't available, my interpretation is that this was due to the chef's attention to detail and unwillingness to get low quality food for the sake of having everything available at once. I was able to have my pick with a different protein (chicken instead of pork).
The edamame beans were genuinely the best I've ever had, for such a simple dish I didn't realise how much could be enhanced.
The host (owner I believe) was incredibly helpful and kind while also maintaining a very relaxed and welcoming environment. There were multiple tables of locals or people who work nearby who were able to do some work and speak to the team - clearly quite a few regulars who know where to spend their time.
