Review of Bokashi Berawa: A Charming Blend of Japanese Cuisine and Organic Goods

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Berawa, Bokashi Berawa offers a delightful escape with its Japanese-inspired menu and a grocery store filled with organic and local goods. This unique establishment beautifully combines the warmth of traditional Japanese hospitality with a commitment to quality and sustainability.

As you step inside, you are transported to a nostalgic Japanese home, with an interior that evokes a sense of comfort and familiarity. The design features warm wood tones, traditional decor, and a cozy ambiance that invites you to linger over your meal. It’s a thoughtfully curated space that enhances the dining experience, making it feel both special and intimate.

The menu at Bokashi is a true highlight, showcasing a range of dishes that celebrate the flavors of Japan. From fresh sashimi to comforting ramen, each dish is prepared with care and attention to detail. The ingredients reflect a commitment to organic and local sourcing, allowing diners to indulge in delicious meals that are both healthy and satisfying.

In addition to the restaurant, Bokashi also features a grocery store that offers a selection of organic produce and artisanal goods, making it a fantastic spot for those looking to bring home high-quality ingredients. It’s a perfect blend of dining and shopping that encourages a sustainable lifestyle.

However, it’s important to note that the location presents some challenges. Parking can be quite difficult, and securing a taxi can be a hassle, so it’s advisable to plan your visit accordingly.

In summary, Bokashi Berawa is a hidden gem that beautifully marries Japanese cuisine with a focus on organic and local products. The inviting atmosphere and delicious offerings make it a must-visit for anyone in the area, but be prepared for potential parking difficulties. Whether you're dining in or stocking up on groceries, this charming restaurant is sure to leave a...

It’s an amazing place, it always reminds me on the time I spent in Kyoto. Absolutely amazing interior design, everything looks well planed, deeply into every tiny piece. The whole place looks like an art studio, take a look at their AC and you know what I mean;)

First floor you can buy your daily food items like fresh vegetables, spices, bread and even some freshly made salads or sandwiches. I bought the rye sourdough which is absolutely fantastic. fresh tomatoes black/red The eggplant chutney paste, which is actually my favourite, great taste can’t get enough. The strawberry jam is also absolutely fantastic, you can taste the real strawberries inside.

Second floor they have their cafe with lots of space and greatly designed seating areas. I like the place right next to the window area with Japanese style seating.

The food is absolutely amazing, with all the well balanced spices, everything has a great quality. Coffee, tea, juices, bread, scrambled eggs, pesto, matcha pancakes and shakes, everything tasted absolutely fantastic.

But with all these high quality standards, you immediately start looking into all the tiny details.

The cutlery looks nice but this knife isn’t the right tool to cut through that delicious crusty sourdough bread. It would be great to have a sharper knife, to get the job done, or just simply use your hands and take a bite;)) Complimentary water is great, a refill would be nice, without asking. For getting the bill, that will take a while, needed to ask two different staff to finally get it. I think it’s more a thing outside of Asia, but they would love to have salt and pepper, for everyone who loves to have even more basic flavours. Don’t get me wrong on this, I liked it, it’s well balanced already. But my company was a different story, they needed to have even more spices on their...

Bokashi completely lost my trust with their negligent customer service due to the staff today. I live in the same street as Bokashi and used to be a loyal customer, regularly doing my groceries and eating here. Unfortunately, after today’s experience I will not be returning…

The first time I ordered their breakfast bento for takeaway, I noticed the portion of salmon was much smaller than when dining in. I let it slide. Today I came back to order it politely raised the issue before ordering, asking them to ensure the takeaway portion matched what they serve in-house. Despite this, the salmon portion I received was even smaller than last time - tiny barely half a finger’s size.

When I asked to pay extra for a proper portion, they overcharged me. The menu clearly states 25k for extra salmon, but they charged me 55k, claiming the “extra” salmon is different when ordered with a bento. This makes no sense. On top of that, I requested to speak to a manager, but no manager was on duty.

Rather than addressing my concern, staff were dismissive and uninterested. It’s disappointing that they did not value feedback or care about keeping a long-term customer who comes often. I even stated that they are losing a customer due to this type of lack of decent customer service and they absolutely did not care.

Also, if you check their GoFood reviews, many other customers have complained about the same issue (takeaway portions being much smaller than dining in). Clearly, this is a recurring problem they refuse to fix.

Sadly, after this experience, I won’t...

The grocery shop is so good looking. I’m in love with the atmosphere. They are even better if you are into grains and cereals but they cover most of the basic (raw honey, butters, nut butters, organic fresh produce complete with the distressed look, vegan cheese and yogurt, etc) The restaurant - same thing. The atmosphere is so great especially at night. The service - the 1st time I was denied sitting and forced to move in the empty restaurant (3-4 tables on the weekend evening). There’s first time for everything and this is so weird specially looking at how random other tables were and she suggested me to sit on the tatami. The food - the wagyu katsu was tough and dry but it was OK with all the condiments on top of it. The condiment set was a-must-have to consume the meat. However, the truffled sticky rice with Parmesan and egg yolk (semi cured) was out of the world!!! Oh they just had a NEW MENU. It must be spring 224!!!! . I visited again for the love for truffled sticky rice. Now in the new menu was the IDR500K MB4 wagyu that I quickly ordered. The rubbery tough wagyu (the worst I had in Bali) didn’t come with the sticky rice. I was crying inside. Perhaps a good place for tea, coffee, and finger food then. Go economical here. The restaurant space feel cozy and quaint. Parking is nonexistent but it is quite normal for the area.
