Coffee Cartel Seminyak — Restaurant in Bali

DO NOT EAT HERE! I was unfortunately the victim of food poisoning yesterday and on reading the reviews, it looks like I'm not the only one to experience it from coffee cartel. I did attempt to reach out to the venue directly via the number that's on this business profile, but I've had no response.

Yesterday I went there and had a bacon and egg muffin and a black coffee at 1030am. As I was eating the muffin, I do remember thinking the bacon tasted different. Not off, but different. I put it down to being in a different country where processing and smoking methods vary. I ate the muffin thinking it wasn't very good and I won't be coming back. 2.5 hours later I started feeling nauseous and that worsened over the next 6 hours until I eventually started vomiting. I was violently ill for another 4 hours and needed IV rehydration this morning, at significant cost. I spoke with my doctor in Australia who is a Fellow in Infectious Diseases, and I asked if it was possible I just picked up a virus from a door knob and she said no; The onset, timing, type and severity of my symptoms all pointed towards food poisoning. Given that I hadn't eaten anything else that whole day and the symptoms started 2.5 hours after eating at coffee cartel, she was very confident it was either the bacon or the egg in the muffin that was off.

Coffee cartel, you are targeting western customers and you are charging western prices. I expect western standards! It's just not good enough that you can make people so sick. I attempted to reach out to you directly yesterday afternoon so that you could go and check your produce and make sure no one else gets sick, but no one has replied to me. It is shameful that Bali Belly is known worldwide, and it's because of businesses like yours that make people so sick by not following basic food safety and food prep guidelines.

More than 24 hours on, I am still experiencing nausea and pain. It was a horrific experience for me last night and, with my husband away, I had to somehow find the strength this morning to get out of bed and get the kids to school.

I'm aware that once you respond to this review, I won't be able to respond back. Please know that I am confident it was your food at your venue that made me sick and the evidence for this is too significant to argue. Please, please, please work with your staff about food safety and food preparation. Not just washing hands, but how long produce can be kept in the fridge and how long food can sit out on the counter after cooking it.

Never again will I eat at your establishment but hopefully this feedback can warn others and prompt you as a business...

Super extensive menu, both all day brunch dishes and lunch dishes.

Great choices for all, staff was super nice, accommodating and friendly to all our requests.

Ample seating choices, upstairs was super cosy and you could lounge all day with your favorite book, downstairs was cool and spacious with long tables and individual round tables for small number and large number of people.

Outdoors were four imaculate marble tables perfect for flatlay photoshoot with natural light shining in. They even have nice brick wall set up and at the side of the road a nice themed pink wall. The perfect place to get your instagram shot!

Prices were very decent, due to limit of tummy and stomach we only managed to try 4 dishes:

1. Pink Smoothie Bowl (Rp 75.000)
2. Royal w Cheese (Rp 80.000)
3. Vegan Smak Hotcakes (85.000)
4. Pork Ribs (Rp 100.000)

And 2 coffees:

1. Pink chai latte (55.000)
2. cappuccino (50.000)

Both of which we added their signature coffee ripple which is your own customize photo on your coffee art! Amazing idea, we loved it.

Smoothie Bowl was amazing, nice bowl of whole goodness. Super fresh. Royal with cheese was the beef burger, beautiful plating and was really nice fries. The hotcakes took the trophy, vegan but yet was so good, and I'm not a vegan. So it really blew me away. Lastly the pork ribs, came with onion rings which was fried with small noodles bits. Best thing I ever had.
