I adore this place without a shred of doubt. The beans they offer here in Bali are of the utmost quality, unrivalled by any other. However, my recent experience took a slightly different turn. Upon entering the shop, I noticed a man sitting with a cigarette in from of the coffee roasting machine. It was evident that he had indulged in numerous smokes in that very spot. Despite this, I proceeded to place my usual order and settled down next to him while I awaited its arrival.
To my dismay, as soon as my order was placed, a commotion erupted between that gentleman and the staff, filled with boisterous laughter and raised voices. The uncomfortable atmosphere they created made me feel unwelcome. It wasn't long before another individual walked in with a bag of beans. One of the staff members showcased various roasted beans from a bucket, which was later used to grind my coffee.
What shocked and disgusted me was that the person with the beans casually touched each one with his bare hands, and the staff simply returned them to the bucket. My v60 was served with a sachet of brown sugar, which was strange for me, as filter coffee should never be paired with sugar. We got a pastry each and they were ok but nothing special. No chat from the barista about the coffee or anything. They have the roastery next door which is cool, it's a nice space to sit for a while but for me the coffee...
