This is added in response to the owner reply : Your WhatsApp does not seem to work as I would prefer to talk. I do not appreciate your tone and lies. what do u mean bank ask you to add 2 %? You are local so should know the law!! how can you said I am complaining so much about booking and table allocation It’s a comment. Nobody wished us welcome or welcome back, and said oh you managed to sit you inside. The fact you said that go to show you could not take our well intended negative feedback and see us as complaining. I specifically heard the 2 guys have no reservation! As I said, your dishes were delicious. It is not a problem but if I knew you can accept feedback to improve, I would had just said the fucj skin could be crispy. Your cocktail waiter took our wine order so asked him, 5 I wanted were not available! The male chef delivered the bone marrow and asked him, he did not elaborate on the d I am not sure what you would do to fix these issues but first thing first, change your attitude!

P.S. I only do bad review so others will not be unfortunate and have bad experience and they are appreciated(do check) My review for you is well intended as stated in the opening, more should dine with you!!

2 stars as our 2 dining experiences have been overall unpleasant. It is not at all meant to discourage foodists to dine there; the dishes we had were creative and delicious(except desert bubur sumsum for its baby food texture and weird taste). On the contrary, I wish them success as I admire the chefs energy and their passion of making great food, so please go! I am writing to give our constructive feedbacks that perhaps the chefs/owners can utilise to improve their running and management of the restaurant if they wish to stay small intimate self run restaurant. Otherwise to go big, they definitely will need someone who knows how to run a restaurant. So below is our unpleasant dining experiences there that I hope they will not repeat-

I was asked to pay 2% for using credit card last night. Just checked that it is illegal to ask that!First dinner on 8 Feb was told no tap/contactless so paid cash both dinner.

Not sure if it was due to our well intended verbal feedback during the first time, last night experience was unpleasant. Called to book and the lady on the phone firmly said no indoor table (which is preferred as sitting outside the first time was unpleasant with the continuous heavy traffic.). When arrived, the cocktail waiter seated us indoor! Then 2 cauasisn guys arrived without reservation and was sat indoor! Then the “fun” of ordering a bottle of wine! 5 of my choices were not available! It was rather frustrating so I asked to talk to the lady chef/owner and advised they should just strike it off the menu to avoid frustration, especially when you are ordering the most expensive and high profit margin item in the whole menu!! Also she told us the food menu would be changed with new dishes after our first dinner but it hasn’t. She did not seem to take my feedback very well (and perhaps in addition to our feedback at first dinner) as what follow was unpleasant. The 2 Caucasian dinner had questions about the menu which the cocktail waiter were not fluent experienced enough to answer so the lady took over. From then on, she was particularly attentive to them and also offer detailed description of each dish. Our bone marrow dish arrive and the chef just said this is your bone marrow! All the dishes we had were delightful and if I think they will welcome feedback, I would had just mentioned the seared duck breast could had crispy skin. I wanted to have desert but did not as again they only have bubur sumsum which is not to my taste. And then the surprise of using physical credit card will incur 2% surcharge!

At first dinner, we gave our constructive criticism on the food- a couple of dishes were over salted and chilli spiced. The exception is the desert bubur sumsum. I advised the lady chef/owner what o thought and asked her to try as it is the first time I had this desert. She said it...

As you come to a bustling crossing around the tennis court in Umalas, nestled opposite of a giant pizzeria and an Italian seafood haven, you can stumble upon a culinary treasure—Tanau. This intimate warung-style establishment, operated by the exceptionally talented Brigette and Nathan, is not just a restaurant but a story of passion woven into the fabric of Bali's dining scene. With just 24 seats split between a cozy indoor area and a lively outdoor space, the ambiance at Tanau is both inviting and exclusive.

Brigette and Nathan, a culinary duo both trained in some of the world's finest kitchens—including Gordon Ramsay’s “maze” and Nobu—bring a fusion of Indonesian flavors and sophisticated Western techniques. Nathan’s expertise under Ramsay shines through in the meticulous preparation of each dish. Meanwhile, Brigette’s experiences at Mozaic and Nobu breathe life into the menu, with local spices and vibrant flavors that dance on the palate and the presentation that make your eyes hungry.

The story of how these young chefs started Tanau could rival any Netflix 'Chef’s Table' episode. Their dedication is palpable, not just in the food they craft but also in the relationships they cultivate with their guests—many of whom are regulars, drawn back time and again by the magnetic charm and warmth the pair exudes.

Tanau is a testament to the magic that happens when skill meets passion. The menu is a canvas of creativity, each dish a masterpiece of flavor and finesse. Whether it’s the bold layers of taste that Brigette crafts or the elegant simplicity of Nathan's techniques, every bite is a discovery. And should decision-making prove challenging, the joy of Tanau is in the sharing; small plates designed to be enjoyed communally, allowing guests to explore a broader spectrum of the menu.

The drink selection at Tanau complements the culinary experience perfectly, with a thoughtful assortment of wines that harmonize beautifully with the Asian-inspired dishes, and signature cocktails crafted with precision and flair.

In essence, dining at Tanau is like a visit to the kitchen of a beloved family member who cooks with both love and a deft hand—it's not just a meal, it's an experience. A place not just to eat, but to return to, where every visit feels like coming home to flavors known and new, all crafted with a fine-dining finesse that is unmistakably,...

What an incredible dining experience! I had the pleasure of visiting Tanau last night, and I'm still buzzing with excitement about the fantastic time I had.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. The ambiance was perfect – a blend of cozy and elegant that set the tone for a memorable evening.

Now, let's talk about the food. Oh my goodness, where do I even begin? Each dish that graced my table was a masterpiece. The flavors were exquisite, and every bite was a journey of taste sensations. It's clear that the chefs here are true artists, putting their heart and soul into every plate. The menu offered a diverse range of options, and whether you're a meat lover or a vegetarian, you're bound to find something that delights your palate.

The service was impeccable. The staff was not only knowledgeable about the menu but also incredibly attentive without being intrusive. My water glass was never empty, and the pacing of the meal was just right – allowing me to savor each course at my own pace.

And let's not forget the drinks! The cocktail selection was creative and expertly crafted. I tried a couple of their signature drinks, and I was blown away by the balance of flavors and the presentation.

What truly stood out to me was the passion that seemed to radiate from everyone working at the restaurant. It's evident that they genuinely care about providing guests with an unforgettable experience. The attention they paid to every detail, from the plating to the ambiance to the service, was truly commendable.

In conclusion, my evening at Tanau was nothing short of amazing. I left with a full belly, a happy heart, and a strong desire to return as soon as possible. If you're looking for a place that combines outstanding food, top-notch service, and a wonderful atmosphere, look no further. This restaurant deserves all the...

Lovely great date dinner @Tanau ❤️ I must say "Thank you for the great foods & experience here" I noticed this restaurant as it's small yet looks exclusive when me & my husband drove the street. Yes, the size of the restaurant is small but I think that's the intention. To build a humble tiny neighborhood's restaurant but with a great foods! The foods are thought very thoroughly... It has a fusion between Indonesian & Western style. So u can easily find the touch of this 2 taste. The menu may not many... But good enough to give u some options. So here is my review w/ some feedbacks: 🥘 The foods tasted very nice.. though our last 2 dishes were a bit salty (it was a baby potatoes and a beef steak). but that's the only flaws we found from their cook. The starter, main & dessert were impeccable :) 🍷The wine also nice (get a good wine here is not an easy job). From my husband's tastebud it was great! 💰 Value for money too Oh yeah.. this is for sure! Finding a delicate dish without needed to spend like a fortune is super rare here in Canggu. With all foods and drinks we had, I must say it's in a very sweet spot. 🏠 The place is small.. but again, it's the in concept. You need to book in advance (better 2 weeks b4) as their place is always packed. There's a min. spend if you want to book for a group (>4pax) dinning. 🙎 The service also great! All the waitresses were so friendly, quiet and attentive. We might prefer not to be interrupted while we enjoy our conversation by asking us more drinks. I do understand it's a sales technique which is very common thing in here... but it needs to be done in a thoughtful way too. So people won't feel being interrupted/pushed too far. Just give some time b4 u offer more drinks n see the situation. But again, we had a lovely dinner here ❤️ Love to come back with friends 😊

Best new restaurant launch in Bali; I love this place! While the grillhouse itself may be quaint, the food speaks loud and clear: quality ingredients prepared by talented chefs, with a lovely staff and two cute doggos. With weekly specials Monday through Friday, it's a great way to sample their growing menu: Monday - 10k sliders Tuesday- 10k taco Wednesday - 25k wings package Thursday - 10k oysters Friday - 40k burgers Of the specials, I've tried all but the wings so far, and have loved every dish. Through my prodding questions, I learned the two chefs are internationally experienced and come from differing backgrounds - together their co-created dishes brings a unique mix of flavors that I'm sure almost all could appreciate. Currently, the snapper is my favorite dish - grilled in a banana leaf, served with greens and sambal - I highly recommend it. However it seems hard to miss, everything from the seafood to even as simple as the fries are extremely well prepared, seasoned, and presented. I know this may seem like a paid review or something, but it honestly isn't, just a foodie who loves delicious food, good people, and better yet when those two come together - that's exactly what Tanau has captured. I'm thankful they've launched, and I enjoy supporting small businesses (especially amidst a pandemic) - I hope you give them a chance and support their dreams. 🍻 Tanau team! The resto is dog friendly btw
