Ok, I went there considering the hype on tripadvisor. Boy, I left there a bit flat. The food was not horrendous but it was underwhelming. Let's start with the drinks. We ordered a few latte and one of them came as an iced coffee when we specifically asked for hot latte because we don't want any ice (for obvious reasons). They did change it for us but thr manager kept joking loudly on and on about it to the staff who took our order. Was he making fun of us? Or just his way? The taro and red velvet lattes were tasty but too sweet, you don't get the option to have sugar or not. The food now... I can't remember the names of the dish but there was one that came with mushrooms cream. The "cream" was liquidy, like seriously liquidy which made it not appetizing. The poached eggs were overcooked as per pic. Maybe we should have asked? But I guess it is standard that poached shouldn't be like hardboiled? The waffles and fried chicken were great though. So yum and my favourite by far. The plating can improve a tiny bit since it is a bit old-fashioned but that does 't really matter. The red velvet pancakes look pretty but that was about it. The chocolate soil required more cocoa powder and less flour. The honeycomb should be cooked a bit more to get a better colour but also make it less sweet and the ice-cream can be made rather than having one store-bought which is saturated with...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite cafes in Seminyak, period and I hope if you like to support local women-owned businesses it will become yours too!
I was able to chat with the owner (and her cute baby boy!) and learned that it also has quite a cool history. The owner is Balinese and built this place almost 10 years ago, before Seminyak became a crazy, busy tourist hub and watched a lot of the new buildings and growth pop up around the cafe. Each item on the menu was lovingly crafted years ago, but has evolved with the times as the owner kept updating the recipes to keep up with the latest local food trends but also augmented based on her travels around the world in attempt to keep a menu that caters to both regional tastes and those from abroad.
This love and care really shows in the food and drinks on the menu. As an American, I've had many pancakes in my life, and many in Indonesia, but the red velvet pancakes here really take the literal cake. It's 10X better than anything I've had in the U.S. and my girlfriend stated outright that it was so delicious it helped power through her Bali belly. The American friends I brought also loved the chicken and waffles and the salted egg yolk croissant which was fun to compare and contrast versus stuff they've had in the U.S.
Seriously, if you're tired of all the overhyped food in the Seminyak area stop by and...
Read moreI heard so much about this place & its pancakes that I was surprised they only had 2 types of pancakes on their menu. Tried their famed Red Velvet Pancakes (55k++ IDR) & it was enjoyable, although I do agree with a friend who warned me about this - I wish the cream cheese taste were stronger. But then again, it's a cream cheese MOUSSE, so... Hmm. The chocolate soil & honeycomb add a great crunch & sweetness to the dish ☺
For some odd reason I was craving Smashed Avocado on Toast & Poached Eggs (55k++ IDR), so that's what else we ordered too. 🥑 🍳 this was good, slightly soggy towards the end although that's not their fault, I am a slow eater.
Latte (26k++ IDR) was bold & served hot. Came before our mains so we could happily sip on it while we waited.
Was lucky enough to get a seat immediately when we got here at 9:30AM on a weekday - everyone else after us had to wait.
Overall a positive experience & would recommend!
