Specialized in Mandheling Coffee, Macehat is one of the legendary coffee shops in Medan City, due to their commitment to present premium coffee at affordable price, and their long experience in the industry. I have known them since about 15 years ago.
Sadly, all this time I have only heard about their iconic name and only got the opportunity to actually pay a visit once, which, however, not gonna be the last.
I'm not so into the place. The indoor area (no-smoking) is too narrow and will be crowded immediately as a bunch of coffee enthusiats rush in. The outdoor area will be pretty hot and dazzled by the sun.
Tried their best-selling Avocado Coffee Float, which, unfortunately, didn't meet my expectation, regardless being the most-iconic menu that is identical with Macehat itself. It was delish, of course, but wasn't as special as I thought it's gonna be.
However, the star on my last visit was their Long Black Sumatran Peaberry, which met all that I crave from a cup of coffee: taste, body, aroma. Strong coffee taste with full-body and topped with gorgeous, golden crema, it was sufficient to deliver the energy of life to my whole body. It was fantastic and refreshing. I kinda want the long black to be my favorite method of serving coffee, since the straight espresso is too thick and bitter for me, the "tubruk" is too pulpy, and the V-60 is just too thin for me.
If you're looking for a fancy and kinda ”millennial-looking”, instagram-able coffee shop, Macehat may be not for you. But if you're looking for a legendary coffee shop that serves quality coffee, Macehat is just the right place.

Their menu is so inviting, you’d definitely want to buy all their tasty desserts and drinks! Many regulars of this cafe can attest to their famous Avocado Coffee Float, which is avocado juice and chocolate ice cream, laced with a shot of espresso.
Their Cafe Brulee and Mocha Lava Jelly looks good, too! Munch on their Cassava Fritters as you get your caffeine fix the Medan way! Macehat Coffee is always packed, so expect to wait to get a table. It’s totally worth it, though!
If you are on vacation around Medan, you must try it. strong and delicious coffee aroma and a comfortable place to hangout with friends or relatives. The food served is also delicious and felt like trying it. Coffee shops usually only focus on coffee and food or atmosphere, but in this place, both are the attention of the owner
Not only does it roast its own beans, this cafe is a magnet for connoisseurs wanting to sample some of Sumatra’s best – single-origin Mandheling Arabica from the Danau Toba area. For something more unusual, try the avocado-coffee blend.
I love it Good luck Macehat coffee, keep it up the greatest...
Read moreIf you want to go to this coffee shop, think again for a thousands times. This place is not recommended at all. The taste is good, but the service is extremely awful! like, EXTREMELY. They won't take any special request, i mean, literally ANY special request even if it's just like "no ice" or "no sugar". Their waitress is rude and arrogant, and not friendly at all. The way she's saying "we take no special request" to us like she's annoyed, she also says to me "look, if you guys still haven't decide, call me later i have so much to do". It's not like we haven't decide, we have but we're surprised that i can't have my avocado coffee float without the ice cream (bcs i'm lactose intolerant). So, to save her PRECIOUS time, i decide to order a simple beverage: ice lemon tea. To me, with that kind of ARROGANCE, i expect the orders will exactly look like the photo in the menu, but meh, the lemon tea IS NOT the real lemon tea. Just a "lemon flavoured" tea sachet (here i post the photos for the comparation of the lemon tea in the menu and when it comes). That is my last time to go to this coffee shop....
