If you're a fan of Indonesian street food, Kwetiau Ateng Medan is an absolute must try. The highlight here is, without a doubt, their kwetiau fried rice noodles that pack a serious punch in both flavor and texture. The dish is cooked to perfection, with the noodles perfectly wok fried, maintaining a satisfying char while being wonderfully tender. The aroma that wafts from the skillet as the noodles sizzle is intoxicating, setting the stage for a flavor explosion.

What makes the kwetiau at Kwetiau Ateng Medan stand out is its deep, savory taste that’s rich with umami. The balance between the sweet soy sauce and the saltiness from the meat and seafood (typically shrimp, beef, or chicken) creates a harmonious and mouthwatering flavor profile. Each bite is packed with a mix of tender noodles and juicy, flavorful protein everything cooked just right.

There’s also something magical about how the wok fried noodles absorb all the sauce and seasoning without becoming soggy. Every mouthful feels like it’s bursting with savory goodness, and the addition of fresh veggies adds a nice crunch to complement the dish’s richness. The touch of garlic and shallots elevates the dish, giving it a fragrant, aromatic kick that lingers long after the last bite.

For fans of spicy food, you can ask for extra heat, and they’ll gladly crank up the spice level, making it even more satisfying. Whether you're having it as a quick lunch or a late-night snack, Kwetiau Ateng Medan’s kwetiau will definitely leave you...

The food taste ok and I used to eat here before. I know this this eatery for long time but the service/treatment to customers now is awful and worst and the cashier talk too high. We had worst dine in experience which our order are not prepared for more than an hour. When I asked the waitress to follow up the food, their answers were not clear and just said still preparing. I tried to approach the cashier and suddenly she said not yet prepared because our orders are different with others. They just prepared and cook the food which are same with others and not based on first in first out order and also prioritize grab food orders. I tried to convince to cook ours first because we come first and wait too long, the cashier said that's their policy...their priority is cooking orders that are the same first even the order came last by collecting at first hand, so if your order is different..you will wait until you die. Another thing is that I asked to turn off the aircon because I have 10 months baby and the aircon directed to my baby's face...well, the cashier didn't care! The food is overpriced also and not worth your hard...

If you are a tourist and not from medan, do go and give it a try just for curiosity. Be prepared to wait up to 1 hour. Medan has many similar and tasty kwetiaw so this place is a hype just because it is a hype.

Medanese will not tolerate the long waiting time just for a plate of kwetiaw. So I'm giving them 1 star just because it takes them 45mins to serve us on a slow day (sunday 12pm) only 3 tables were seated. And we had to wait 45mins just for the damn plate of kwetiaw. And when asked, the mbak were as rude and as proud as if they had work in a branded good store. So yea if they think they are all that, that putting up a bad service is acceptable and no measures taken to improve their serving time and service, then they deserve a 1 star.

How can anyone still has the stomach to eat when they are made to wait for up to an hour for their food?

They won't change soon. Not in the next 5 to 10 years at least. So you either put up with them or go elsewhere where they appreciate you better.

PS: For the fastest service go at midnight 00:30 where they are near their...

I really liked the kwetiau goreng spesial that they have: plenty of meat (they have pork meat, lapciong/sweet pork sausages, a couple of prawns, and fishballs) and tastes really good ✨ I’ve always liked Medan kwetiau because they’re on the salty side instead of the sweet ones. The dish costed me 55k, a glass of cold plain tea was 6k and the small bag of pork skin crackers was 10k. I came on a Monday afternoon so it was not crowded at all. Also ordered 2 portions to go and once I told the waitress that I’m taking these back to Jakarta on a flight they immediately know to “air” the freshly cooked kwetiau first before packing them in banana leaf and brown paper so as to not make them spoil during the trip. Cool service indeed! Will definitely come back next time I’m in Medan 😁

I ordered a Kwetiau Goreng Special through Grab and I noticed the pricing was a bit higher than other locations yet when the food arrived I noticed it could feed 2 hungry people and 3-4 not so hungry people. The seasoning and just mix of ingredients is really simple and tasty as well. Menu is simple with statement dishes such as kwietau, nasi goreng, bihun goreng, ifumie goreng, and some beverages such as teas, juices, and more. Packaging was nice with a zip tie as a seal and extra sauces/condiments accompanying the meal. Overall, food tasted great and portion was better than I was expecting. Highly recommend.

Ok, kwetiao in Medan is very different from those in Malaysian, Singapore and Northen ASEAN. They are more like “fen tiao” aka the thicker version of “tang hoon” aka glass noodles, made of green beans. Texture wise is more elastic than those made of rice, like the one you have in Malaysia & Singapore. Taste wise, it’s very “eggish”. Each kwetiao is covered by egg. The “wok hei” is quite strong too. Quite unique and nice. The fried rice is above average. Each grain is covered with soya sauce and good to eat it with the green sambal. Overall, very good!
