Updated Review
The Aryaduta is a local alternative high-end luxury-style hotel in Medan. A less expensive alternative to Western international brands, you'll enjoy a more Indonesian flavor at the Aryaduta. Cash & credit cards accepted. English spoken by most of the staff. Guest rooms located primarily on the 10th and 11th floors with reception, restaurants, pool and conference areas located on the 9th floor.
Rooms are comfortable. And like many Eastern hotels, appearances are very impressive until you begin to look closer. The hotel would benefit from the removal of carpet in the rooms and hallways as well as conference areas. There is wear and tear evident upon closer inspection nearly everywhere, along with a somewhat curious level of lack of attention to basic care & repair.
Rooms are comfortable. Beds are quite firm. Pillows and linens are comfortable. Blackout curtains are provided along with an in-room safe, mini-fridge, tea & coffee service with hotpot, and armoire with plenty of hangers. Laundry service is available. Television with a good variety of stations. Convenient electrical outlets near the bed as well as near the desk/workspace. Wi-fi is available but coverage is weak in the bathroom.
Bathrooms are Western-style with plenty of water pressure and hot water, though the ability to precisely control the temperature of the water is lacking. Basic toiletries are provided, along with a bottle of drinking water for each registered guest in the room each day. Room service is the default but you can opt out of it. Only body towels are provided (one per guest) - no washcloths or hand towels.
Lack of attention is evident in the carpet stains throughout the facility, and particularly in loose screws. As in the screw holding the shampoo and shower gel dispensers in the shower was loose so the bottles were about to fall out. The luggage rack had two screws hanging loose and making it useless without some basic repair. Finally, during my stay (business conference) one of the two elevators was out of service, making wait times longer than necessary.
This remains a very comfortable place though, and unless you have very high standards you will be more than comfortable here.
They have an on-site restaurant that serves three meals a day plus room service. Prices are expectedly high and the quality is about what you can expect from a higher-end hotel. Not bad, but not memorable. They also have a Sky Bar I didn't visit which may serve cocktails. They have a pool (though the water quality is typically murky).
Meeting spaces are large and comfortable enough. Sound system rentals are available, though the projection system could use some updating.
The location is good although there's a lot of construction going on throughout Medan late 2023-early 2024 and many destinations are hard to reach or unavailable.
I would definitely recommend this if you don't mind paying a higher price. Your experience will be better than less expensive...
Read moreAryaduta Medan is a great hotel which is located just next to Medan City Hall, in the heart of the city. It is just within walking distance to major landmarks in the city like Merdeka Square, Benteng Square, Main Post Office, Bank of Indonesia Medan branch, North Sumatra House of People Representative, banks and Kesawan Historical Street, Perniagaan Clothing Street, Pajak Ikan, etc or just around 5-10 minutes drive to Medan Train station (airport train departs from here), major shopping centres: Delipark Mall, Sun Plaza, Centre Point. It is located on the top floors of the Grand Palladium building. Sadly, this building is abandoned.
The staff here offers warm and hospitable service. They give you their best smile when greeting you. The minus pont is their housekeeping. Actually, they did good job on room comfort and cleanliness. The front office asked us to wait around 10 minutes when we arrived at 3 pm, despite we had made this booking weeks before and the check in time was 2 pm. A certain amount of deposit fee is applicable for check in.
The Grand Deluxe room was spacious with balcony. Room cleanliness and comfort is very good. The bed is clean and comfy. Two pillows are provided for each guest. The rooms also comes with one sofa seat and working table. The television set is a smart TV which is connected to Nextfix, Youtube and other on demand video application. A weighing scale was also here but not seems not so working well. There was minibar in the room. Drinking water in 600ml bottle, tea and coffee making facilities, as well as toileteries were provided completely. The wardrobe was also big with safety box inside. No bathrobe was provided.
The breakfast spread was great with numerous choices of local and international delicacies. From fruits, salad, pastry, porridge, rice with dishes, pancakes, egg, cakes, pudding, jamu (Indonesian traditional drink), cereal, tea and coffee, fruit punch, noodle bar, etc are available for guests to dine in. Taste of the food is good. Restaurant has a great city view. The restaurant also serves for in house guests all day dining as well as room service. The restaurant has open kitchen concept so guests may have a good scene of foods being prepared.
It also has a swimming pool with adults and kids section. There are also banquet facilities from ballroom to small meeting rooms. Small fitness centre is located next to the swimming pool but the machines were not well functioning. Parking is located at quite top floor of the building with entrance from the rear part of the building. Free parking is available for...
Read more#updated review ( August 2022) We came back after 4 years and the hotel is nowhere near its 2018's state. Probably due to COVID-19 and the lack of tourists.
We stayed for more than 10 days but initially received a room that badly needed repairs with mould in the room, stains on the bedsheets, towels and walls.
We directly complained and received another pool terrace room, but two days later, at 1AM, thar new room got flooded by a tropical rain overflowing the swimming pool. It was very distressing!
After evacuating to a temporary pool terrace with our two young sons, I dreamt of being in a third class cabin of the Titanic ship!
The following day after complaining to the manager, my wife managed to receive a junior suite on the 11th floor instead.
The room was nice and big and we received complimentary snacks, which was a good gesture to compensate the loss of proximity to the pool and emotional damage.
During our stay we noticed issues with availability of (clean) pool towels, with no towels being given at the pools on weekdays and request of room number when asking for towels in weekend. The breakfast buffet is also less enjoyable than in 2018 with very little change from day to day. :(
Aryaduta really lost his international class and seems to be cutting many corners to accommodate a domestic clientèle while patching damaged areas.
In summary, we have mixed feelings about the hotel. It seems the manager and staffs are doing all they can to keep this hotel afloat but I really doubt it will be for long due to numerous accumulating damages and various changes in the area (the grand Palladium mall is a ghost town, Merdeka walk is closed).
We are leaving tomorrow and are not sure we would come back again to Aryaduta despite being very emotionally attached to the place. Hopefully it will change for the better.
#previous review (June 2018) Good International relaxing hotel in center of Medan. The quality has decreased and then improved over the years. As of June 2018 it is a really nice hotel again. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Buffet is large and with great quality food (crunchy croissant and pain au chocolat ), nice Belgian pancake and omelettes. The swimming pool has been fixed ( I cut my toe on a tile in 2013) and water is transparent rather than translucide ! We could ask a room facing the pool which is a big plus to refresh after chaotics days trips in and...
