This soup business was started by first generation, the grandfather, Datuk Indokayu (Zulkarnain) in the Olympia area around 1953-1954 in the form of a simple tent without a name.

After touring the city for several years, it was only in 1962 that Soto Sinar Pagi stood in its present place permanently.

The beginning of his business was not easy. The large number of extortion (illegal fees) and floods that often occur are challenges that must be faced by the grandfather.

The thick soto sauce and soft meat and offal that surprisingly don't smell fishy at all might be the reason why this place is included in the ranks of legendary soto outlets.

I asked around to many people: “what is the best breakfast people love in Medan” and they answered the same: try Soto Medan. And according to them, the best place to enjoy Soto Medan was this place, it is called RM Sinar Pagi.

To get the place is so easy. Use gmaps or even mention the place, then people will point the fingers to the building at the hook of Jalan Sei Seli where many customers’ vehicles park in nearby places.

At first I am a little bit confused over Soto and Sop, since RM Sinar Pagi was not only serve Soto Medan but also different menu for breakfast: Sop, Nasi Rames, etc.

After knowing the place to order Soto Medan, then they offer me 3 choices: chicken (ayam), meat (daging) and mixed meat and internal cow stomach (campur). Then the waiter served me a plate of rice, a bowl of Soto Medan, and two minced potato (perkedel). The perkedel shape were unique, at first I tough they were fried bananas.

The taste of Soto Medan almost similar with Soto Betawi, but the coconut milk was lightier, savory and the perkedel were upgrading the taste to next level.

Altough I didnt like the interior —nothing special; it was just an ordinary place to eat with many branding stuff and hot —- but the my curiosity...
