My wife and I came here and both had the deep fried fish and chips. The fish itself tasted ok but nothing to brag about. The batter was however really really terrible. It was almost grey in colour and tasted like flour. It was very dry and certainly not crispy like it should be. It wasn't particularly hot and looked like it had been standing for a while after being cooked. There were maybe 10 chips in total and they were fairly thin, crinkle cut, and rather soft. There was a token dress salad on the side which consisted of one very small thin slice of tomato, and one small thin slice of cucumber. There was also a very limp piece of lettuce which looked like it had been standing in the sun a while. Yes it's pretty cheap, so you normally get what you pay for. But nevertheless, a very below average meal.
One further complaint was that the staff allow customers to have dogs roaming around the dining area not on a lead whilst people are eating. Whilst I am a dog lover and have two of my own, one customer had two dogs, both of which were not on leads and roaming freely. One of those dogs went unnoticed round the back of my wife's chair and started urinating. Thankfully I spotted it in time and my wife managed to move her leg. The dog urinated all over the chair leg and ground. I complained to the owner of the dog who just smiled and then laughed, giving no apology. I firmly voiced my disgust, but again said nothing in response, and she eventually got up and left. I complained to the staff who just smiled and replied 'OK, thank you'!! and smiled again! Needless to say I won't be...
Read moreNot nice at all. We went here based on good reviews. Well I must be a bit different than those folks. First when we arrived we were a bit put off by the fact that the tables and chairs are in the sand as opposed to on any solid surface which was not too nice. Next we noticed the view to the beach was not too nice. Next there were the stray cats and dogs wandering about and the family with a bunch of children in the sand just off the restaurant (which was really nasty when the little one was screaming and they were changing the diaper just a short way from our table). We decided to give it a go anyway. We ordered a cucumber salad, the squid, the barracuda and a fried noodle along with drinks. The fish fish was a bit old tasting, and the piece they gave us was tiny. The cucumber salad was very boring, basically cucumbers, tomatoes and onions with not enough dressing to give it any flavor. The fried noodles were pretty good, but unfortunately too spicy for my wife. The squid was the highlight, but was only OK and not particularly good as it was overcooked an rubbery. Both the fish and squid were supposed to come with rice according to the menu, but none came and when I asked the waiter he said oh no they don't come with rice. It was not really important so I just dropped it. The bill was 375 K which would be OK if the food was good, but given what we had we were not thrilled. I would NEVER come back and would recommend trying somewhere else as it is just not a nice environment...
Read moreThis is one of the casual warung style eateries setup in the Semawong and Cemara Beach area along the Sanur Beach promenade. They have tables setup on the beach along with lounge chairs and serve up reasonably priced grilled fish and other dishes throughout the day.
We had lunch here during a recent visit to Sanur. We both ordered the grilled Mahi Mahi, one fillet was served over-grilled and a bit tough to chew while the other was uneven. Top half of the fillet was perfectly grilled while the bottom half was uncooked and cold in the middle, had to be sent back to finish grilling. Once returned it tasted just fine. Salad served with our fish orders consisted of a single small shred of lettuce along with small tomato and cucumber slice and rice.
Overall, uneven grilling was disappointing, fillets were fairly tiny. Sort of felt like a fish specialists should have gotten the grilling right but this just wasn't the case this time around. Had far better grilled fish over at Retro Cafe during a couple of other meals during this trip. Would go there first before trying Jack Fish during future...
