After we decided to go to bali, my first thing I booked was this class. This was one of the best decisions I maded during our holiday.
The great skills and knowledge of Mudana are really great. He knows everything you want to know. All questions are welcome.
We have chosen for the Balinese cooking class Inc a trip to the Jimbaran Fish market. The cooking class starts with a Balinese breakfast. Great paring of sweets, sticky, banana and rice. Good start of the day. After that we started cooking. Part by part he tells us what we were doing. 7 courses and course by course we prepared it. During the preparations we could taste everything and ask all the information we wanted.
When everything is ready we were brought to our table and service started with our soup. After that we get the main course with the different types of dishes. After this a real Balinese dessert. Cocos, palm sugar combined in a crepe and folded like a loempia. Awesome.
For everyone who is interested in cooking and foreign kitchen, please take this cooking class! It's definitely worth the money. And Mudana and is family are such friendly and great people!
Thanks for this...
Read moreAfter almost 2 years closed Chef Mudana and his team of Dede and Made are giving the most fantastic cooking lessons in Balinese, Indonesian and Sumatran cuisine!
After we were picked up from our villa by the lovely Wayan, we were greeted by the smiles and hospitality of the team in a way only the Balinese know how - all in perfect English too.
We spent 2 hours cooking a huge array of Balinese dishes but also learnt about the balance of flavours and key ingredients, many picked from Chef's own garden. The team watched over us carefully as we laughed and joked about our skills, and our garbled Bahasa.
The lesson was so fun but the food - oh wow! Every dish was tingling with flavour and through our great tuition - perfectly balanced with lime juice, salt and chilli. For my girlfriend who is not as keen on anything too spicy every dish was adapted for both our pallets. We had so much leftover we will have a feast for dinner too.
If you read this, you must head to Warung SMS for a lesson! Thank you...

If you're travelling solo, you can still participate and join another group for a morning or afternoon class so don't hesitate to reach out. In my group we were 5, which according to me is probably the maximum to let everyone contribute to the dishes.
Communication by whatsapp is very efficient to book a session.
The class itself is interesting, in the middle of a typical balinese house, and the result delicious. Price is "westerner" (and so are the participants) for sure, but it's worth it: the value is there. (Welcome drinks, photo ops, attentive staff caring to answer questions, tons of help along the way, spicyness toned down to "bule" levels, recipes sent over by email, etc.)
A great tourist activity in Sanur, much better than anything you can find in the area.
Looking forward to joining another class there to learn some more tips about...
