Biggies BBQ — Restaurant in Jakarta

We visited Biggies today, after meeting at the nearby JIS. Its good, scratched my itch for smoked brisket but not great.

The place is hidden behind several other stores, in what my Australian wife would describe as a “dodgy” location. Upon entering the restaurant there were several cats trying to sneak in and one certainly did!

The inside is basic, but clean. The counter staff were friendly and one even spoke English, but really only responded to specific questions, she wasn’t very helpful in making suggestions with their menu, etc.

We ordered two sampler trays w smoked Beef Brisket, smoked lamb and chicken and way too many sides. The beef was great, tender and hot. The lamb was succulent and juicy - none better! The chicken was very Smokey and a little dry but okay.

The side dishes were just bad... garlic bread that no one ate, macaroni and cheese that was very watery and just not good. The coleslaw looked okay. The chips I ordered were homemade potato chips, crispy and salty, but not hot. I assumed they would be made fresh and served hot... I was disappointed.

They had 2 homemade BBQ sauces available (bbq and mustard bbq) and they also had Tabasco and sambal to spice it up! Ohh and no beer - who eats bbq without beer ? (Indonesians apparently!)

All in all, the food was not bad but the location needs improvement and the ambiance was non existent - some music would be good! The staff were nice, but need some training: they were clowning around and eating in full view of the customers - not...

Tried the Combo 1, with my choice of brisket (100g), half-chicken, mac n cheese, and mashed potatoes. The meat was so tender that it practically melted in my mouth. Both brisket and chicken were pefectly seasoned, but smoked just a tad too strong, for my liking. The mashed potatoes came with some gravy - it was good. Alas, the mac n cheese performed poorly - the cheese sauce was so thin that you could practically drink it.

My dining companion had the same combo but consisting of brisket, lamb, garlic toasts and coleslaw. He could not stop gushing about how great his meal was.

Another companion, a burger afficiando, had the Cheeseburger with additional sunny side up. It took him less than 6 minutes to finish. It was that good.

It was a great experience all around. Good food, courteous and warm service, on top of great company. We shall...

The location may not be easily spotted from the main road, but it is still easily accessible. The dining room itself is very simple and lack decoration, so it might feel a bit boring in here. But they aren't famous for their decor of the dining room, no sir. They are famous for their product. And the main product that you must try AT LEAST ONCE IN YOUR BLESSED LIFE , is the beef brisket. It is very tender, and the taste of melted fat and smoke seeps deep into the fibres of the meat itself, giving it a sweet and savory goodness in every bite. There are several other options for main dish such as BBQ chicken and burgers, and also multiple options of side dishes such as chips, rice, garlic bread, etc. In summary, the beef briskets are to die for! It's affordable, gorgeously delicious, and VERY tender. What else could...
