Gandy Steak & Bakery — Restaurant in Jakarta

Gandy now is not the same as Gandy in the past. The last time I went here was around 10 years ago (can't really remember, but it really has been a long time).

Food: I went here for my dad's birthday dinner expecting some pleasant dining experience. Here's what we ordered:

Mushroom soup The mushroom soup, is not like the usual mushroom soup. It has a porridge-like texture that I'd rather to call it a mushroom porridge rather than a mushroom soup. The taste was sub-par and under seasoned with overcooked and undercooked mushrooms.

Aglio Olio On the menu, there's only aglio olio with tuna. Thankfully we can ask the tuna to be replaced with prawns. The taste was like an average aglio, nothing extraordinary here.

Chicken Quesadillas Chicken quesadillas is supposed to be a mexican food with their distinctive taste. Unfortunately the chicken quesadillas here is well under-seasoned and as my mom said, "it is more like a chicken stew rather than a quesadillas".

& 5. Australian Tenderloin & Australian Sirloin Both steak tastes great! The beef was well seasoned and cooked to our liking (we ordered medium-rare, medium, and medium-well) perfectly. Despite of the difference of what we ordered, they served the steaks in the same time and in a still hot condition. It's a 9/10 for their steaks. It would be 10/10 if only they use fresh vegetables instead of frozen vegetables.

Drinks Nothing special here.

Service: I have to say, I am disappointed with their service. They really talk amongst themselves A LOT. Not only that, they talked even louder than the guests! It really disturbed our dining experience. Moreover the lady that took our order seems like she's having difficulties remembering things and doesn't seem to really understand the menu. The struggle we have to go through just to explain we want the tuna to be replaced by prawns are beyond words. They were also lacking salt and pepper when we went there. We have to ask for multiple times for salt because it seems the container was empty everytime we asked for it.

Ambience: We went here during ramadan, so it is common for dining places to set some ramadan songs, and I'm fine with that. BUT, they play the music loud AND the TV was even louder for God sake! The TV was playing football match, while the music plays some ramadan songs! Can you imagine that?

Overall, I'm very disappointed with how Gandy perform today. The next time I come here (if there is a next time), I will only order for the steaks and...

Dining at Gandy is a trip down memory lane. The old-school, classic ambiance, sometimes described as "vintage" or "jadul" (old-fashioned), is a major part of the experience. The pickled 'Acar Bawang' red onions and chili condiment is a unique, celebrated part of the Gandy experience that we love.

Gandy's complimentary buttered bread roll, served warm, is an iconic and beloved part of the meal. It's excellent, and the buttery flavor is delicious; even when other menu items may falter, the bread's quality often remains our highlight.

If you like a truly exceptional modern steakhouse, other options might be preferable, but for those looking for a sentimental trip back in time, Gandy's remains a worthwhile...

The chicken steak is presented beautiful. generous portion of chicken breast, accompanied by a selection of sides and unique garnish lije shallot and bird eye chili pickles. The chicken steak is known for its tenderness and juiciness. The meat is well-marinated. The seasoning is expertly balanced, with a combination of herbs and spices that enhance the natural flavor of the chicken without overpowering it.

The dinner rolls are served warm, soft and fluffy, buttery flavor this dinner rolls is outstanding.

The spaghetti bolognese delivers an average taste experience.
