GUIBIN RESTAURANT PIK 贵宾楼 — Restaurant in Jakarta

From the outside, Guibinlou looks like a very legit "Chinese" restaurant that I often see back in Mainland China. So we gave it a go.

Sadly, going in, the staff didn't say anything - and we had to tell them how many people we had for them to serve and lead us to our table. Some seats were also dirty with a few stains and dried tiny grain of rice. I believe they are too quick to open the restaurant because their staff were clearly not ready.

Now comes to the food. The food is okay, taste-wise it is lower than expected. We ordered 8 dishes and the only menu that is done "quite right" is their stir-fried cauliflower. And what looked like hui guo rou isn't quite like it. The plating looked nice, but they did not taste good.

Clearly, it might be the chef's cooking skill or they tried to tweak the taste to suit the locals. But from a local's perspective that often travel overseas, especially China - I can only give 50/100 points, it's just okay.

I hope they can improve their food...

First time having lunch here. We ordered quite a few, such as salted pepper pork ribs, sweet and sour pork, samchan with broccoli, tofu with kuchai and fish with fermented vegetables soup among others. Overall they were made with northern China's culinary approach that lacked spices. These made the dishes were quite bland for the local taste, except the soup which was spicy and sour. I think the soup was the highlight of our culinary experience at this establishment. The staffs served us quite well, accommodating our request relative quickly. The room we used was still notably new and clean. I guess further adjustments to cater local taste would help bringing more local customers to come and not depending heavily to the customers from Mainland China that happen to...

The atmosphere was nice, but the toilet was really dirty filled with cigars and the egg was VERY salty. We told them that it was salty and they were laughing at us and didn’t even want to give us a discount. And not to mention the pork is filled with fat and we couldn’t even bite the pork.
