Lo Mie Karet behind The WTC Complex South Jakarta May 2019
Braised pork tongue and ears for 50 K and 40 K IDR respectively.
To be honest i was a little bit surprised at the amount when i asked for the bill - kinda thought that they would have charged 50 or 60 for the whole lot instead of 90. BUTTTTTT i do have to say that these are the best braised pork parts i have ever had. I have never really liked sekba and its derivatives due to how overly sweet most tend to make it, but this one is really that different. Not only did they not make it too sweet, they also braised it just enough to make it tender without making the pieces lose their great texture. This is the best pork tongue i have ever had and their ears was also the best i have had in terms of the perfect combination of the gelatinous meat vs soft bite cartilage ratio. Best, i tells yah! Best!
Subsequently, i think this is the only time i have ever had the cut pieces served to me not just cut out of the braising liquid (like what most do). Instead, it seems that this restaurant sauteed the cuts with some garlic. This really amped up the savouriness of the dish. Furthermore, they also served it with some limo lime (a smaller lime which packs much more bite) which really counterbalanced the sweetness oh so well. Naturally yours truly asked for a bit more, but really it was just a match made in heaven.
Now their specialty seems to be the lo mie, so i ordered the lo mie goreng special with all the fixins for 55 K IDR. I never liked noodles, but this lo mie was springy and yet still had enough bite to it to make it enjoyable. Lo mie isn't as common as other types of noodles and so i reckon they probably made it themselves which clearly set them apart and commanded the price. Personally i would have liked it more charred, but i guess their style is a bit on the slightly wet side. The dish was definitely worth the price and i really suggest sharing it as one really made me full (and i could eat a lot).
Last but not least, their 15 K IDR squeezed oranges. It isn't the sweetest, but it was just so pure and refreshing that i ordered a second (never happens!)
