Arrival & First Impressions : ||The hotel’s interior is striking and full of character. While the lobby felt compact and the corridor leading to the bar and restaurant was dimly lit—it opened into a stunning, high-ceilinged space housing Casper, the hotel’s main dining venue. The transition was unexpected but beautifully executed. Just look at the exceptional ceiling. |||Dining at Casper: ||Upon arrival, we had lunch at Casper and were surprised to find the same menu offered for both lunch and dinner, focused primarily on Spanish tapas with limited variety. Unfortunately, the Nasi Goreng was underwhelming—basic, bland, and lacking vegetables and taste. The tuna salad was similarly uninspired, consisting of iceberg lettuce, a few beans, and canned tuna.||To the hotel’s credit, when we provided feedback, management (Melissa and Sebastian) approached us the following day to share that a new chef had recently joined and menu revisions were underway. While we appreciate the Spanish concept, we believe guests—especially international travellers—would appreciate having Indonesian options available. We look forward to seeing the updated menu.||Breakfast, however, was a highlight. A generous spread of Asian and Western dishes was complemented by excellent coffee (especially the oat milk cappuccino) and delicious traditional Jamu juices. Special thanks to Ms. Maudy and Mrs Citra, whose attentive service remembering our coffee, tea and juice preferences each morning, made a lasting impression.||One design quirk worth noting: the restaurant tables are unusually low, making it difficult to sit comfortably and not being able to get your legs under the table.. We opted for high tables and couch seating.|||Pool Areas x 2: ||The fifth-floor infinity pool is spacious and well-appointed with lounge beds, but the area lacks sunshine. While some guests may prefer shade, we found it too dim for our taste.||The rooftop pool, by contrast, was exactly what we were seeking: sun-drenched, surrounded by palm trees, with lounge beds, ambient music, and a vibrant bar-restaurant (Cali Café). The atmosphere here was lively yet relaxing. The food was notably better—flavorful Nasi Goreng, garlic prawns, and other dishes—and the service far more attentive. A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Liza and her team, as well as hotel management, for accommodating our request for early access to this space.|||Room Experience: ||We stayed three nights in a deluxe room and loved the interior design. The true standout was the bed—exceptionally comfortable with plush pillows and high-quality sheets that made for a good night sleep . Slippers were provided, though they were too small (a common issue in Asian hotels). We hope larger sizes will be considered in the future.||Our room on the 26th floor offered a great view. While some traffic noise was audible, it didn’t detract from our experience—it’s a big city, after all.|||Fragrance Sensitivity : ||The jasmine scent in the lobby and hallways was overpowering and made us feel nausea. Upon raising this with reception, they kindly paused the fragrance spraying on our floor. During our stay it somewhat faded, but was still strongly present, so in our opinion there isn’t a need to add the fragrance that often. We appreciate Mr. Irven in reception responsiveness and we suggest a lighter touch with fragrance in shared spaces.|||Spa Treatments:||The spa was serene and beautifully designed. We enjoyed two treatments, and the therapists were professional and skilled. One issue: the massage beds had an added mattress layer that made the face cradle uncomfortably small. We gave the feedback and the therapists removed the top mattress and the experience improved significantly.||||Overall Impression ||Despite a few areas for improvement, our stay at The Orient Jakarta was memorable. What truly stood out was the proactive and thoughtful response from the staff—especially Melissa and Sebastian—who took our feedback seriously and acted swiftly. That level of care made all the difference. Thank you for a stay filled with warmth, character, and genuine...
Read moreStayed here for a night in late April 2023 did my booking through Traveloka. I'll breakdown my review into several points, but all in all, great stay but the breakfast is something you can skip
Location 5/5: Strategic. Even if you don't bring your own car, you can just walk around 250-400 metre to Bendungan Hilir MRT. There's no walking distance attraction to be honest but with the MRT, you can easily go anywhere. Online taxis are aplenty so no need to worry
Room 5/5: I got a complementary upgrade to the Orient room and the picture I took just simply didn't do it justice. The view is stunning, I got a cityscape facing Sampoerna Strategic and all its surrounding. Comfy bed, comfy pillow, seating area perfect for reading lazily. The room structure is more of a long room rather than wide. Didn't take photo of the bathroom but the whole thing is basically in the other side of the photo as I stood in the middle of the room when I took the picture. The toilet is standard seated toilet with bidet (not the kind of Japanese smart toilet) separated from the shower area and it has bath tub of its own and a large vanity section and sink (but not double sink). Amenities are all Ferragamo and all the minibars are complementary (2 Cola, 2 Sprite, 2 Bintang + 4 bottled waters)
Facilities (not giving any rating since I didn't fully stretch the staying experience by utilizing all that I could get): Great pool, but you have to play it smart and go when it's not crowded, so some times around 3 PM, above dinner time or very early morning. It's on the 5th floor and overlooking the city. I didn't have time to use the lounge so maybe next time
Food 3/5: Breakfast is not the best. So, we have buffet for salad, cold cuts, cheese, cereal, bread & pastries and juices & milk, then we have to choose 1 menu from their main course. I tried their Nasi Goreng while my friend tried their Udon with Onigiri. Before talking about the taste, let's just start it off with the fact that you don't even get eggs as a buffet option when other 5 stars hotels in town literally provided buffet for generic things like eggs in any way, sausage, beans, the basic English breakfast and the same buffet as them + main course. Here, it's part of the menu. Basically, I believe they can serve more variety of food available as part of their buffet menu while the main course can be this well-curated, limited list of great tasting food using their restaurant specialties (Caspar and Furusato) that will truly sets it apart from other hotels because....let's be real, not every hotels in Jakarta has udon or arroz in their breakfast menu Now let's go down to the taste and service. First, the buffet. All pretty standards, but the cheese, the smoked salmon and most of the cold cuts ran out/cleared even before the breakfast time ended? Quite unacceptable for a 5 stars hotel. Nothing runs out until the last guest leave is the basic practice for prestige hotel so please improve this in the future. Compliment to the pastry and bread team for great banana bread, flaky mini croissants and pain. Much appreciated Second, took me almost half an hour and a wrong order that came out (with the staff showing annoyance to their coworker for the wrong food served to me) before I got my Nasi Goreng. My friend literally finished her meal already before my Nasi Goreng came. Third, Nasi Goreng is underwhelming despite interesting side dishes that came with it like Sate Maranggi (2 skewers) and this Indonesian fried chicken and egg with sambal. The flavor of the Nasi itself is one-dimensional and the sides seemingly became something to distract the guest from the nasi goreng flavor. Udon and Onigiri is the better option to be honest as the broth is rich and the onigiri is loaded. The drinks......you can just stick with mineral water or the juices because my friend's Americano served in boiling hot temperature that could literally burn your tongue and my latte tasted sub-par
So, conclusion: Staying for the room and facilities and will definitely...
Read moreI've write a review in Agoda but I'll write a review again in google. DON'T EXPECT THE HOTEL AS A 4 OR 5 STAR HOTEL.
I'm actually quite disappointed by this hotel and I rarely feel this way. I will put the pro and cons on this review
Pros: Location in the city center (but you have to use a car to go anywhere if it's raining, but it's actually walking distance to the MRT) and it's in adjoin with Furuzato Izakaya (Japanese food) and Caspar Working AC, quite nice view from the room although the windows need some cleaning because of the rain, high ceiling, free minibar, hot water and perfect shower. It's also have a traditional indonesian interior and a rustic view. The gym facilities! And the pool. It's amazing, they're equipped with modern treadmill, crosstrainer and static bike. And they have a complete sets of dumbbell and weight machine. And they provide mineral bottle in the fridge. It's really nice! 5/5 for hotel Gym. And the pool is big, view is good and they have hot water small pool. The staffs are also the nicest and the best so far. The downside is that the toilet quite smelly but just avoid it altogether and go back to your room.
Now the cons: The layout of the room is horrible in my opinion. The toilet is right beside the front door, BUT the washtafel is in the behind so you have to cross your room just to wash your hands after you're done in the toilet. (And the toilet door is a sliding door without a handle so it's kinda hard to open actually). They provided a nice big tv and a sofa, but it's placed beside your bed so you can't watch the tv from your bed without cranking your neck LOL the only thing you can watch is the silhouette of your roommate taking a shower. Not really ideal if you're on staycation with friend. Everything is leaking. There're drops of water in the elevator, marked of leak in my room ceilings, and there's even a leak on top of congee section in the restaurant. It dropped to the lid and splashed to the condiment. Inform the staff about it, get a thank you and explanation that it came from the central AC but nothings done to move the congee section to other area Breakfast is really limited. Limited menu, limited space. And most of it are dry. I think the fried rice and noodles are undercooked and the chicken is so hard and dry. AND there's a lot of flies on my table. One staff saw it but she only swat the fly. Never have I ever experience this kind of things in other hotel restaurant. The WORST part is... Blackout in my room around 9.12PM the phone is not working, my friend go out and saw a staff, he only said that the technician will come, 10 minutes and still no one come, my friend go down to the lobby and again the staff said to wait in the room someone will come LOL (Total darkness and they expecting us to wait?) Lights come back around 9.30-ish maybe and the staff only phone us to ask if the electricity are back. No apologize or even explanation? Even on the check-out they don't say anything. Very lacking in hospitality in my opinion.
So yeah, with the amount of money I paid, it'll be better to find other hotels that are really a 4 or 5 stars for...
