Also known as Bengkel Koewe, Maison Weiner is located at Jl. Kramat II No. 2, Kwitang, Senen, Central Jakarta. The classic impression is evident in the store's facade, which is dominated by red and white colors. Housed in an old building, the interior of Maison Weiner is simple. In addition to display cases filled with various cakes and breads, there are several tables for dine-in customers, covered with red checkered tablecloths. The store area isn't very large, but the back of the store is quite spacious and serves as a production area for bread and cakes.
Every day, the Maison Weiner kitchen actively produces around 80 to 100 recipes for bread and cakes. For bread alone, there are at least 50 varieties. There are also recipes made on specific days or based on orders.
What about the taste? The taste of Maison Weiner’s bread is clearly typical of European bread. The inside is dense, slightly coarse, and doesn’t deflate easily. The wheat content is higher, so eating bread here is quite filling.
If you buy filled bread, the filling is abundant. Every bite has filling. By the way, even without preservatives, the bread can last up to three days at room temperature. The taste of the bread and pastries served is also authentic, characteristic of Dutch recipes.
I tried a few of the many varieties of bread and pastries served at Maison Weiner Cake Shop, including Saucijsbrood, Dutch-style sausage bread with the aroma of spiced beef, Ontbijtkoek, a classic pastry with a strong cinnamon flavor, plus nuts and raisins that give it a fragrant aroma, and Broodje, a pastry filled with sweet and fragrant nuts.
Delicious. I will definitely...
Read moreThe bakery has historical stories as it is the first bakery in Jakarta, built around 1932, cmiiw.
The location is easy to find, at the small road, near the main street, so it's not too noisy but still reachable from public transportation. The nearest one is Transjakarta bus from Pal Putih BRT.
It is not too spacious, only providing 2 tables for dine in during pandemic. And they have a quite large parking area. They have coffee or tea or bottle drinks for dine in. Many kinds of bread, cake, pies, and sourdoughs. Actually not my kind of favorite bread but you have to try it first.
They receive cashless payment with debit card, but it's strange when I came they did not print the receipt.
Ah, and the staff are so good as they are strict to the health protocols! So no need to worry to visit. They open everyday...
Read moreI am a fan of bakery, you can say I start my daily days with bread. Bought a cranberry & walnut sourdough for 70k-ish and a red bean bread for 13k. Those are my all-time favs. So I tried it in so many places even when I went abroad. But, the sourdough here is way too sour for me, covered with too much flour, which affects the taste. There is no bit of sweet from the dough or the cranberries. All you can taste is sourness and the texture of walnuts. Will I buy it again? Of course not. I prefer the one from another bakery, which apparently is also cheaper. For the red bean bread, the redbean paste was quite good, but the bread was dry. The price is almost the same with another bakery, which tastes much more delicious. I don't think I will buy anything from...
