Pepper Lunch was first established by Kunio Ichinose in 1994 in Tokyo. Its innovative concept is to serve slices of meat, vegetables, or rice on a super-hot hotplate, allowing customers to cook them themselves to their desired level of doneness. In Indonesia, this concept has been around since 2006.
I love the jumbo-sized Beef Pepper Rice. I really enjoy its savory flavor, the flexibility in cooking levels, and the enticing aroma of the sizzling hotplate.
Typically, two original Pepper Lunch table sauces are available on the table: Amakuchi (Honey Soy Sauce), a sweet-salty sauce with honey and soy sauce, offering a warm, sweet sensation; and Karakuchi (Garlic Soy Sauce), a spicier, garlicky sauce with a slight kick and rich flavor.
I like to pour the sauces according to my preference: from the sweet and bold Amakuchi to the more distinctive Karakuchi. Sometimes I add both for an even richer flavor combination. Perfect for my Beef Pepper Rice.
The service is also quick. The ordered food is brought to the table. The staff are very friendly and helpful in preparing the food for customers who may not know how to cook it. That’s awesome.

Read moreI ordered the Giant for my brunch, which included 230 gram steak, mashed potato, string beans, rice, egg, and mushroom plus drink for a net of 274k. It was a big portion for such an expensive price. But I liked the taste, though the steak was rather chewy, which made it less worth. It was kind of a fast food, cook it yourself restaurant, so the service was not that relevant. The ambiance was okay.
In the next visit, I ordered prime tender with extra egg for the net of 210k, including refillable drink. The steak was tender and yummy, and it is one of my favorites. The rest of the items were standard.
In the following visit, I ordered a diced cut steak 150 gram set that came with rice, miso soup, and lychee tea for about 160k. The steak was tender and juicy like any other steak in Pepper Lunch, but the portion was rather small.
It had been a while since my last visit. This time, I ordered a diced cut (saikoro) steak set that came rice and sprite. Some pieces of steak were unusually rather chewy, yet still juicy. I spent an overall about 179k for this meal.
Coming after a long pause, we ordered foods seen in pictures. They were all tender and juicy. For red gum steak, I chose a butter garlic sauce and added an egg. We spent around 514k for three people, which was worth the portion and quality...

i like to pour the sauce once the hot plate is served, and mix the sauce with the meat and vegetables while the plate is hot. be careful of the heat, because it can burn your hand while mixing them up.
the meat is tender, and the sauce is creamy and delicious. i like to sprinkle some black pepper on top of the sauce to add...
