Pondok Sedap Malam Restoran — Restaurant in Jakarta

i personally don't like this place and don't recommend people may be just one of those days but i would not go back. so I Wanted seafood for dinner yesterday and Laguna was full so decided a different restaurant and this place was just down the road from Laguna. Arriving at Sedap Malam I initially thought it was close as it was empty we were the first one there at 7pm. I was surprised because Laguna was full and here is empty, anyway we went ahead. First thing i noticed the fish was dying in the aquarium and as i went to my table there were many mosquitoes anyway ordered garlic prawns as i read many reviews to order and i also ordered squid grilled and crab with saus padang for the veggy just kangkung belacan. prawn was good just like other reviews says. however, The crab sauce is extremely spicy, kangkung too and the squid was chewy. oh i also ordered a plain egg omelette and it was super salty that we had to order again without salt. i didn't finish my meal as it was just too spicy. they should of have asked how spicy i want it to be. it should be called spicy crab as no other flavour except chilly thank god the prawn was good but In the end i Had McD and in the future i would choose McD over...

The black pepper crab and steamed fish were good BUT the service was horrible.

We requested for a small bowl and the staff kept mentioning that we didn’t have any soup for the bowl to be asked.

We wanted to use the bowl for our daughter to eat the rice and gravy. Finally they gave after much persuasion.

I asked for some plain water for our baby milk, they asked if we have paid the bill and even told us we shouldn’t use room temperature water . We should be using hot water instead. I don’t know if I’m the mother of the child, or the female staff.

The price is too expensive. 1 dish of crab was 553.000 will not recommend and will...

I started eating the seafood dishes of Pondok Sedap Malam, Muara Karang (MK) some 20 years ago. Subsequently, we ate at this bigger, more classy Batu Tulis (BT) branch, near our office. Personally, I prefer MK that gave me the ambience...grilling/smokey at outside of shop, aroma drifting from the grilled fishes, prawns etc. Perhaps, I'm more biased as I felt the food at MK seems to taste better.
