Operated in an infamous historical building from VOC period known as Toko Merah. Amongst most prominent look of historical building along the Kali Besar canal, considered as heritage building owned by private. History mention this was the house of a Governor General on duty in his time. Actually a twin house, that has been switch owners a couple of time, yet change functions as well. Once was a bank which you can still see it cashier area remnants. Then once a casino, was a famous chinese restaurant which you can find a high quality embroidery wall paper with golden strings & dragon phoenix pattern. Ask for the history to appreciate more of this pretty heritage. Its wooden roof structure was renovated 1930, almost a century since its last big renovation works. This building needs a serious heritage conservation works to be able to use adaptively. Some parts need structural strengthening. Second floor could only holds up to max 20ish person load. Now some space is rented to Rode Winkel as resto. Coffee and snacks are decent amongst other cafe at Oud Batavia district, food just ok. Also, amongst proper place and affordable ones. With beautiful view to the Grand Canal/ Kali Besar. I came at weekend, not so crowded. Need more a cafe based heritage management to boost sales, visit and historical value. Do learn some precedence from similar cafes. Personally i hope this place could upgrade thus sustain. We need a proper cafe like this in...

Banyak sekali menu yang sold out, baik makanan berat, minuman, ataupun side dish.

I came here to do a quick "work from cafe". Located inside a historical building "Toko Merah", you will be greeted by a friendly security man upon entering the building. Entering this building is like throwing you back to the Dutch colonial period. They have AC and non-AC area but not sure if you can smoke in the non-AC area. Wifi is provided here, but they don't have many electric sockets. The toilet is very clean as well.

For the price, it's pretty fair. I ordered their palm sugar coffee "Kopi Rode" (IDR 27k) and a tiny cup of Espresso (IDR 25k, served with a cookie). Not too cheap, but also not too expensive as you also can enjoy the interior of the building. Unfortunately, they only accepted cash for under IDR 50k purchase (which made me have to order more since I didn't have cash).

For not an expert coffee like me, the Kopi Winkel tasted nice although it was a little too sweet for me (but I'm not blaming them since I'm not a big fan of sweet taste, so the problem is on me). I think it would be nice if they serve double shot espresso Kopi Winkel.

Overall, it's very good. Great coffee, great atmosphere. It would be much better if they could accept any payment method without minimum purchase and provide...

After the Red Shop was restored in 2012, it now functions as a multi-purpose room, exhibition space, cafe and shop selling durian. This afternoon I had the opportunity to stop by for a cup of coffee at the only cafe that was open and was on the 2nd floor. After scanning the menu, I ordered coffee with a choice of manual brew using Kerinci beans and a Cassava Cinnamon Gravy menu to accompany my coffee. Cassava is sprinkled with cinnamon powder and given a sweet sauce that makes the cassava taste even better. While the taste of coffee from the Kerinci beans is fruity so it is a bit sour with a medium body and a slightly bitter aftertaste. There are 14 tables with 56 chairs to welcome guests who come. In some corners there are electrical plugs and wifi and toilets are available on the 1st floor. The room is spacious and feels cool because the ceiling of the house is high and there is also a fan above the room. It is recommended to come using public transportation because there is no parking space for cars or you can park in the place provided and then walk to the cafe. Limited motorbike parking can be done next to the sidewalk but it is not recommended.
