Restaurant Dharmawangsa: WOW!
After the success of their flagship restaurant at The Aoyama Grand Hotel, Shikaku has opened its doors in Indonesia at The Dharmawangsa Hotel in South Jakarta. During my visit, I tried the Chef's recommended specialty menu, which offers a delightful blend of traditional and modern authentic Japanese cuisine.
I am not at the Toranomon EDITION in Tokyo, but dining here certainly feels like it. The décor exudes a zen-like atmosphere reminiscent of EDITION hotel lobbies.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The highest quality ingredients were meticulously crafted to perfection, ensuring a memorable dining experience. We loved the cozy yet upscale atmosphere, and the service was top-notch.
5/5 dining experience! We really look forward to visiting @shikakujakarta again!

Read moreJust recently heard about this new restaurant in The Dharmawangsa and decided to check it out.
We came during a quiet season after lebaran and had a smooth ride to the restaurant. We parked at the hotel parking when we should've parked in front of the restaurant entrance. But even then, the walk wasn't too bad.
We started with the crab chawanmushi, which was splendid. Then continued on to the other starters like the chicken nanban, the ebi mayo, Japanese potato salad, and the pickled shishamo. Most of the starters were pretty good and enjoyable for people of all ages.
The main courses we had were the Unagi Tamago-Toji, Beef Sukiyaki, Hambagu Steak, Unagi Nasi Goreng, and Shabu-Shabu, along with some Okonimiyaki on the side.
The main courses were mostly great! The Unagi Tamago-Toji (soupy dish) was warm to the tummy and provided a good balance of savory and sweet. The Unagi Nasi Goreng was also quite good, although it didn't exactly blow my mind. The Beef Sukiyaki reminds me of rawon, but provided its own disctinctive Japanese feel. The Hambagu Steak was a little underwhelming. I expected a better mouthfeel out of it. I especially loved the Okonomiyaki. It has a great texture that incorporated chewyness and crisp while also giving a melt-in-your-mouth experience when consuming it.
We then finished with the Matcha BASK Cheesecake and the Shikaku Semangka Sorbet.
The semangka sorbet is an experience better for the eyes than it is for the mouth. Be careful when ordering, because what you get for Rp. 60,000,- is NOT the entire watermelon worth of sorbet, but ONLY a small bowl with about 2 scoops of sorbet. The sorbet is also not really a sorbet, but felt more like shaved ice with watermelon flavor. I would not recommend this.
The Match BASK Cheesecake is good and better value for its price. For the matcha lovers out there, this one, along with the Matcha Tiramisu, is probably the better dessert options to order compared to the sorbet.
Overall, it was a good experience and we had a lovely time. Although due to its price range, I expected more out of it, it was still above average in food and service by...
Read moreI recently visited this Japanese restaurant and I must say that it was an incredible experience. The restaurant's ambience is exclusive yet welcoming, which makes you feel comfortable from the moment you step in. What's unique about this restaurant is that you can see the skilled chef preparing your sushi right in front of you, which adds to the overall dining experience.
The waitress and chef were both extremely friendly, and they treated us with utmost respect and kindness. They were knowledgeable about the dishes and helped us with our orders. The food was undoubtedly the highlight of the evening. The sushi was incredibly fresh and delicious, and the balance of flavors was just perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant to those who are trying Japanese food for the first time or those who are already fans of Japanese cuisine.
Overall, my experience at this Japanese restaurant was exceptional. The combination of excellent food, friendly staff, and an inviting atmosphere made for a perfect evening. I cannot wait to return and try more dishes...
