Sop Duren 88 — Restaurant in Jakarta

Very recommended for durian lovers. Although if you are not, best to stay away since the smell is quite intense inside the place.

The place is almost always crowded. Placed on the side of the road, this place is busy, loud and hot. Located in the heart of Tanjung Duren, getting to this place is not easy. You can expect traffic jams to last up to 2 hours just to get around Tanjung Duren. Parking is also very hard to find. Be prepared to park quite far away.

The durians they serve here are not fresh, rather frozen ones and cut into chunks before served according to the order.

What I ordered: Durian Juice Weird taste. Taste like crushed ice with durian essence. Not recommended, not their best menu available Es Krim Duren Just packaged durian ice cream. Very small. Creamy and the durian smell is strong. Es Cendol Duren The brown sugar overpowers the durian. Not recommended. Ketan Duren The portion is small. As big as sushi maki. Only ketan with durian kinca. The kinca is not the best one too. Not recommended Sop Duren 88 The star of the show. Made with many layers of toppings. From the bottom, there is durian flavored crushed ice just like the juice. On top you get the frozen chunked durian, grated cheese and shaved coconut(?). Topped with sweet condensed milk, this menu is their most legendary one. Available also with various toppings such as slivered almonds etc. Sop Duren + Egg Pudding Just like Sop Duren 88 without the cheese. Add egg pudding and crouton. I ordered this with chatime's egg pudding in mind. How wrong I was. But it was still very delicious. The egg pudding cuts through the durian's intense taste. With croutons giving crunch and salty taste. This menu is simply my favourite.

One of the most famous sop duren resto in West Jakarta area. Easy to reach, but parking spot is very limited, better visit using public transportation or motorcycle. Me and my wife had standar sop duren and ice coffee milk. My wife said that sop duren was very delicious for her liking. This place also serves fried rice, chicken noodle, dim sum, etc. Price is cheap to reasonable. Beware that this resto is non-aircon, and smokers friendly. Hygiene is terrible, it is located inside car garage and there are some storage locker to show car engine oil just next to dining table (!). They also didn't implement Covid rules inside resto. Recommended for duren lovers and small gathering...

Friendly and Helpful staff

Large selection of Durian base desserts, but no fresh durian served only frozen cubes of durian. Ordered the Chendol With durian. Very small amounts of frozen durian cubes. Strong Durian taste, but the soup was too sweet and the ice cubes stuck to the frozen durian cubes. Suggestion: use traditional shaved ice. A Disappointment.

Durian ice cream: on the sugary side , but still retained the durian flavors. It’s a Better choice to for fill your Durian cravings.
