Leaving Rimba by Ayana tonight and was very happy with everything, food was great, staff was good, room and facilities are worth the price. Was about to leave a great review but final dinner ruined it all. We booked a table at Kisik restaurant with my girlfriend and were very excited since reviews are generally amazing (which now I think are totally fake). It's our last night so mood was on point and we were looking forward to enjoy one of the best seafood places in Bali (as they say). But what a waste of time, money and mood it was! We ordered fresh (as they say) seafood from the counter: oysters, muscles, lobster, mix skewer of grilled fish with vegetables and jumbo shrimp. All the food came fast and together so we didn't get a chance to enjoy it warm because we were still eating oysters at the time all the warm dishes arrived. Plates were not changed until we asked for it although we came at 5 pm and were one of the few early dining tables. The day before we dined in Jimbaran beach area next to the market and ordered same items 4 times cheaper but my girl was cranky it wasn't as sophisticated as she wanted. Little did she know that Kisik that we were so much looking forward to, was not only less sophisticated but simply tasted worse. Dull, overcooked and even weirdly smelling. But the reason I'm writing this review is that 30 minutes after food I felt nauseous and went to bathroom were I threw up. My girl was nervous and asked our waiter how fresh the food was, the waiter said we never had problems and wasn't even hardly trying to help. When he came out of the bathroom another waiter saw his green face and ordered water (thank you!) what more can I say... mood is ruined, whole vacation has a bad taste in my mouth and Kisik is a total waste of health/time/money. Avoid...
Read moreDefinitely worth 5 stars for the view at sunset but unfortunately the food does not match the view. The food was ok and good quality but compared to any of the most popular restaurants in Seminyak the food at Kisik was very ordinary, with no pop or wow factor, no subtlety, no interesting aspect. Service was friendly but amateurish. Set-up, same. It's lovely, but doesn't really pull off the eating-on-sand experience. Ditto with food presentation, basically cooked and dumped on your plate. 5 star hotel restaurant and you have to awkwardly mill around picking your order, and when served, your waiter walks around with a bucket of white rice, ladling it onto your plate. Not the experience I was expecting at Ayana. The complimentary gado gado would be an embarrassment at a cheap cafe and has no place at somewhere like Ayana. Bouillabaisse, a little better, but not much. I don't recommend getting your prawns barbequed Bali style as they don't know what they are doing and you end up with harsh tasting, dried out little stumps of flesh. Dessert was nice enough but even that came with some weird, stale wafer. If you choose to eat there, stick to the fish. Swordfish and snapper were actually pretty good, but honestly, nothing special. Nice cocktails. Great view. I'd go again for the view. Should you go ? Yes. Just don't expect a...
Read moreMixed feelings about this place. The atmosphere and view is second to none. The service was amazing. Our waiter was more than happy to entertain our numerous requests to take photos of us in the beautiful sunset and he was experienced with the camera. The seafood was as fresh as it comes; the mud crab and lobsters were still kicking.
The food overall however, left a little to be desired and given the price we expected more. It was super expensive, which would have been fine if the Singaporean chilli crab tasted something like Singaporean chilli crab. The flavour was more or less absent and over powered by a way too rich tomato flavour. At $80 for the crab, we had a dirty taste in our mouths for the rest of the meal.
The garlic and bbq prawns were superb. Massive prawns and the flavours worked. The crumbed fish was good without being great, comparable to good fish and chips.
Probably the hype of the place let it down and perhaps 4 stars is being generous. The selling point is the views but the food was overall a huge let down. Would...
