PENIDA TROPICAL — Restaurant in Nusa Penida Subdistrict

It’s rare that I give a negative public review of a restaurant. I worked as a waitress and I know things can go wrong… but in this case it would be wrong to say nothing. We went here because of the good reviews…which I now realize are all fake 😢 I understand that you might need a few fake reviews to get started, but you have to back them up with acceptable food and service. We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for overpriced, average food. (69k for 4 prawns 😫). The kitchen staff don’t seem to be able to cook more than one meal at the same time, so we couldn’t eat at the same time. Table across from us was the same. We had a 60k cocktail each and I’m 99% sure there was no alcohol in them. Maybe if I had been given some alcohol, I wouldn’t have found the playlist so infuriating (same extract of a ballad kept coming back on after every song that was played, which was mostly gangster rap btw). Saw good ratings and was really excited. However, really small portion, but nicely decorated. Rice was completely hard and not soft. Mango was bitter and completely disgusting, doesn't suit the rice at all. Not enough coconut sauce at all. Ate mango sticky rice before and know how it should taste, this was a complete failure. Only ate two bites, they gave me a new mango and was still not edible. I ate Bali mangos previously and they tasted just fine, so i don't know how mangos can taste so disgusting. They said sorry and gave me new mango, that's why two, not one Star. But they should have said I don't need to pay or do something else. Can't recommend...

If you didn’t have to wait over an hour and a half for the food it might have been better, one dish came missing a key component but after such a long wait couldn’t face asking for it, the two others order the same meal and it came out over 20mins apart with the other meals long finished? We watched 2 couples walk out as they couldn’t face the wait (one after ordering) Staff were friendly but no one came over for the first 25 minutes and with 8 tables it was a bit confusing how the whole process was so slow!
