Was looking around for a chinese/dimsum place to eat in and since ratings were good in google decided to give it a go.
The waiter who initially took my order seem to have little knowledge or couldn't be bothered with explaining the recommendations since he responded twice with "mungkin kakak mau lihat menunya dulu?" after I passed on his recommendation of pecking duck since it was too big for a single diner. Reason why its a 3* and not a 1* is bcs the other 2 waiters were nice, friendly, welcoming and helpful.
Ordered 1x chicken lumpia (finished - good) 1x prawn har gow (only finished bcs it was the 1st dish that came out and I was hungry - alright). Skin was falling off with the slightest touch of chopsticks. 1x pork & chicken wonton (only took 1 wonton out of the 4/5 - bad). 1x shu mai chicken black pepper (only took 1 out of the 4 - bad). 1x xiao long bao pork (finished 2 out of the 4 - bad). Skin too thick, broth was plain? Vinegar was sweet? 1st time trying a xiao long bao that is very "different". 1x classic margarita (the only great thing ordered).
Just noticed as I was eating that majority of the customers were foreigners (non asian, mostly westerners). I assume that is the market. So if you're asian and looking for dimsum only come here to try something "different". Didn't try the other non dimsum menus so can't say anything about that.
Was surprised by the amount of awards placed on the walls while paying since it's nowhere close to authentic.
Interior&design is nice.
Ps: I was previously informed that it was tough to find a good dimsum place in Bali (by locals). So no hate, just stating as is from my personal opinion who eats chinese food and or dimsum at least 2-3x a...
Read moreAs an Aussie expat who lives in Hong Kong, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dim sum at Happy Chappy. My only wish was for the wontons to have more of the traditional Szechuan 'numb'.
The staff were generally attentive, and asked all the right questions when I mentioned my wife was a vegetarian. The salt and pepper tofu was especially delicious (even the meat eaters enjoyed it)!
Although the kid’s menu is limited to only three options (sesame chicken, noodles, and honey prawns), lots of other dishes on the menu are suitable for kids (we ordered dumplings for our 6-year-old daughter).
Food arrived promptly, both when we ate in, and when we placed a take-away order a few nights later.
I would have loved to try the Sunday all you can eat dim sum, but unfortunately we had other things planned.
We’ll definitely visit again next time we're in Bali (if not again on...
Read moreThis is not our 1st visit as we were one of the 1st guests when they opened. Other times were great, this time wasn't. The staff were so nice and professional. And the rooms are so lovely, even after many years But our dinner was not good. The fried entree snack were just mass produced, ordered in from a frozen food supplier. The bbq pork brisket was the only success. The sesame chicken had soggy, vinegar flavoured batter and came as a congealed mass with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. My husband didn't even know what meat it was. The stir-fry calamari had about 6 pieces and so chewy. Not sure what the sauce was. I hate to give this critique, but it just wasnt good. Originally it was like visiting Chinatown in Melbourne, now it's like the local Chinese in a suburban shopping strip. Please pick your socks up as we have always loved HC. And...
