being excited to dine in this restaurant more than other shrimp restaurants after reading several reviews, so i decided to come here for dinner. at first glance, the street was quite dark. staff was very friendly. and offered mosquito lotion. i ordered garlic butter shrimp plate. hey i didn’t notice the details on the menu when i ordered my meal. even as an indonesian, i found it weird to have rice and potato wedges on the plate. too much carbo 😂 the fried shrimp were only 7. i had to cut each into two every time i ate so that my rice and shrimp were finished at the same time. i was tempted to order additional shrimp but hesitated because of the potato wedges (which were crispy though) still sitting there with a bunch of salad with (if it’s there) very less dressing. the kemangi (basil) sorbet was good, refreshing with a hint of bitterness. i was really full but not quite satisfied because i did not find the taste that i was looking for. the shrimps were absolutely fresh. but other similar restaurants provide fresh shrimps too. or perhaps i just did not order their signature sambal shrimp (i don't like sambal) that i missed their top dish. i might try another menu (appetizers or whole grilled fish) if i happen to look for an option of online food delivery one day. further inside of the restaurant, there was a small pond. relaxing ambience. sadly, the restroom was smelly. could smell it one meter away even i put my mask on. it is better to come for lunch because the wall interior will look much better on daylight. portion size 5/5 restaurant vibe 4/5 restaurant view 3/5 service rating 5/5

Overall: This restaurant is a great choice for a special or slightly upscale dinner. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is lovely, and the service is excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Bali. Food: The red snapper was cooked to perfection and the shrimp in black sauce was flavorful and savory. The stir-fried water spinach was also delicious. Atmosphere: The restaurant has a beautiful setting with a terrace that overlooks the surrounding area. The atmosphere is romantic and upscale. Service: The waitstaff is very attentive and helpful. They were able to provide excellent recommendations for the menu. Additional comments: * I am a tourist from Japan and I was very satisfied with my meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to other Japanese tourists. * I would also recommend coming to the restaurant at night, as the view is beautiful and the breeze is refreshing. * The surrounding area is also very nice and there are many other great restaurants in the area. Specific dishes I tried: * Red snapper - Whole grilled * Shrimp - In black sauce * Stir-fried water spinach Overall rating: 5 out of 5 stars Would I recommend this restaurant: Yes, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Bali. Additional tips: * Make a reservation in advance, especially if you are planning to dine on the weekend.

I passed this place a few times and always thought it looks more like a bar than a restaurant. When researching tonight for where to get some seafood though 'Sambal Shrimp' was popping up everywhere. It's also only a 5 minute walk from our hotel so we thought why not give it a try. Food's actually quite nice here, fresh and they offer 6 types of sambal to go with the dishes. We had the bbq bamboo lobster, boiled shrimp and grilled prawn as well as fairly small but tasty octopus skewers and an off the menu vegetable dish (if you want veggies just ask). My favorite were the grilled prawns and the lobster for sure and sambalwise the back sambal kluwak and tamarine sambal were my favorites. Prices are pretty much on the high side here so with a few additional beers, a happy hour cocktail and a small dessert we ended up at around idr1.4mio. Service was outstanding tonight, friendly, very attentive and kind, and we really had a good time. One thing to mention as well though and which for me had a negative aftertaste is that, for whatever reason and additionally to the high price level, they do have a couvert here per person (including 1 slice of bread & butter) that I haven't seen at any other place in Bali and the service charge lies at 11% which was also higher than the usual 5-7.5% around here.

Our experience at Sambal Shrimp Restaurant & Bar in Bali was absolutely phenomenal, making it one of the highlights of our trip! We were craving a seafood dinner and were drawn in by the mouthwatering photos of grilled octopus legs and grilled red snapper we saw online. Despite being tired and the restaurant being a bit far from our location, we decided to make the journey—and it was so worth it!

From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the stunning hand-crafted wooden architecture on the first floor. The warm ambiance, paired with the heartfelt welcome and the radiant smile of our female waitress, set the tone for an unforgettable evening. She was an absolute gem—professional, kind, and so lovely that we couldn’t resist taking pictures with her! Her guidance throughout the dinner was exceptional. When we initially wanted to order 14 grilled octopus legs for our group of three, she thoughtfully suggested ordering 10, explaining it would be plenty. We truly appreciated her honesty and care, which made the experience even more special.

She informed us the food would take about 21 minutes to prepare, but everything arrived in just 15-20 minutes, beautifully presented and piping hot. The grilled red snapper, served with sambal matah on a charming leaf-shaped dish, was a burst of flavor—fresh, perfectly cooked, and paired with the vibrant spices that Bali is known for. The grilled octopus legs, spiced with Indonesian flavors, were tender, succulent, and simply divine. We also tried a delicious Indonesian rice dish with eggs and spices—sadly, I forgot the name, but it was incredibly tasty and complemented the seafood perfectly.

The restaurant’s atmosphere was elevated by a serene canal running through it, where beautiful koi fish swam gracefully, adding a touch of tranquility to our meal. To our delight, we were lucky enough to witness a traditional Hindu dance performance by two incredibly talented young female dancers. Their grace and skill were mesmerizing, and we happily took pictures with them afterward. As a sweet parting gesture, the staff gifted us souvenir keychains when we left, which was such a thoughtful touch.

While our stay in Bali didn’t allow enough time to explore more of Sambal Shrimp’s specialties, we’re already looking forward to returning for lunch or dinner on our next trip. This restaurant is an absolute must-visit for anyone traveling to Bali, especially if you love seafood. The combination of delicious food, warm hospitality, stunning ambiance, and cultural touches makes Sambal Shrimp Restaurant & Bar a standout. We can’t recommend it enough—don’t miss out...

worst!!!!!!!!

I’m not sure if it was because I was a foreign woman dining alone, but the quality of service was quite poor. I was left unattended for most of the time, and it was difficult to communicate when I tried to order another drink. In particular, I asked a female staff member for the Wi-Fi password, and while she said she would provide it shortly, she never returned. I had to ask another staff member for assistance.

The fried rice was tasteless, as if it hadn’t been seasoned properly. The fish had a strange, unpleasant smell and was undercooked, with no proper seasoning either. I couldn’t eat most of the food and ended up leaving it. Although the remaining food was packed for me, I eventually threw it away as it was inedible.

When I asked for the bill and attempted to pay by card, there was an error. I explained politely that it might be due to my card provider’s maintenance period and asked them to wait about 10 minutes while I showed the error screen. However, the female staff member responded with a stern and angry expression, stating that the restaurant closes at 11 PM and asked if I had another card or cash. Her tone was humiliating, especially as other patrons were present. I was extremely embarrassed and felt deeply humiliated in that situation. I reassured her that the card would work after a brief wait, but she continued to treat me coldly, as if I were attempting to dine and dash. After 10 minutes, the card worked successfully, but I was so distressed and uncomfortable that I quickly left the restaurant and returned to my hotel by taxi.

This was a thoroughly disappointings experience in both taste and service. If even one aspect had been satisfactory, I wouldn’t have bothered to submit a complaint. However, the staff’s behavior was unlike anything I’ve encountered in restaurants anywhere in the world.

I look forward to your prompt attention to...
