Luxury ambience, great aesthetic, slightly above mediocre food; that's how I'd rate this dining club. I love the starters and sides, they're all really really good. The mains however, I'm a little disappointed. The duck breast is good. The meat is very tender and the sauce is rich in flavor and it compliments the dish well. Barracuda fish was meh. Not as good as the duck, but good enough to enjoy (the price is a little too high for the taste in my opinion). Lobster spaghetti was too salty.
Dessert was.. interesting, for the lack of better word. We had Chocolate dessert (menu says made of miso, dark chocolate, vanilla, and rum). I could be wrong, but there's a strong taste of cinnamon and earthy flavors there, which I assume comes from either using cinnamon in the recipe, or from spiced rum (I'm leaning towards spiced rum). I find the strong cinnamon taste to be jarring combined with sweet vanilla ice cream, salty miso, oreo crumbles, and dark chocolate garnish. The earthy flavors was just too strong for me personally, and this was the worst order I had during my experience there. But I digress, it could just be my preference. To each their own. Please don't let my review preventing you from trying it out yourself, especially if you like earthy flavors.
Cocktail was okay. I prefer less sweet martini but lychee martini was enjoyable.
Service was good. Employees were all polite and friendly. Food waiting time wasn't too long despite the full house on weekend. The place is dimly lit with small candle for each table, giving romantic and intimate vibes for diners. Aesthetic interior and food plating. I'd give 3.75 stars if I can. For the price point, the mains and woodfire menu tasted less than my...
Read moreI first came here by invitation during their soft opening was with my friends from the influencer community, and we were all immediately amazed by the concept. It’s not just another stylish restaurant; this is a true fine dining destination in Surabaya, and they’ve nailed the ambiance.
The restaurant sits inside a beautifully restored heritage building, with elegant interiors, open kitchen, and carefully designed seating that gives you plenty of space and privacy during your meal. It’s spacious, but thoughtfully laid out, each table feels personal and calm even on busy nights.
They also have a second floor, which for me is the best spot for brunch. The filtered light from the ceiling makes it cozy and yes, super instagramable. Meanwhile, their large outdoor space at the back is perfect for group gatherings or casual meetings (especially if you prefer an open-air setting).
What makes Locaahands Dining Club special isn’t just the space. Their food and drinks are next level. It’s all about wood fire cooking, from the perfectly tender Short Ribs to premium dishes like A5 Miyazaki Ribloin MB10+, all executed with finesse. Their mixology game is also on point, with a great selection of cocktails and wine, fitting for anything from aperitif hour to a full evening celebration.
If you’re looking for a curated fine dining experience in Surabaya, this place definitely sets the standard.
Ps. If you’re in the Tunjungan area, check out their second branch, named Tunjungan 39. A more laid-back spot but still set in a heritage building, perfect for cocktails and dinner while watching the city move outside. I’ve left a full review for...
Read moreAs a loyal customer of Opak’s locaahands, I was definitely excited to hear about this place opening. This was why I was so disappointed after having such high expectations about Dining Club.
First of all, the food. All the food I have tried overall has been mediocre or just plain bad. The fries, the eggkee, the Dutch pancake, the cheese platter, the vegetarian options. None of them made me want to finish the whole plate. Even the vegetarian meal I ate only one bite of because it just tasted that bad. The only redeeming thing would be the dessert/pastry I took a picture of below. That is the only thing I would gladly reorder.
Secondly, the price. I understand that Dining Club is marketed as something much more high end than locaahands cafe in Opak, but the value of the whole experience is just not comparable. For mediocre food and some coffee, I would rather choose the cafe any day. If they’re placing this big of a price tag, then Dining Club should step up and improve the quality of their products.
Finally, the place itself. Dining Club is spacious, well-lit and has a great interior. This is definitely their biggest appeal, being the new hot place to hangout in. However, what I didn’t expect was that it would be so difficult to talk to people in the same table as you. I came in with a group of 6-8 people and I could barely hear the person next to me. Because of this, even though the place is so visually appealing, I don’t think I’d like to come back to hangout in big groups any longer.
I really hope Locaahands Dining Club improves, as I do like the place, but for now, Opak...
