One of the best rawon in Surabaya. This stall is the savior when you are hungry in the middle of night, since they open until late night. They offer rawon kalkulator and soto dok (soto daging). Fun fact #1 they named it rawon kalkulator due to the cashier fast calculation during check out. You can test out the cashier if you don’t believe this fact. Fun fact #2 they named it soto dok due to after adding soy sauce to their soto, the “dok” sound will heard when they put back their soy sauce bottle to the table. About the taste, rawon is superior compared to soto dok. Their rawon is super tasty, the meat is tender and big cut. I even could say that it’s one of the best in Surabaya. You might be run out of side dish when you took late dinner. But no worry they still have lot of stock of rawon and soto for your hunger. Definitely must visit culinary when you visit Surabaya.

Rawon is a typical beef soup from East Java. The black soup is from fermented kluwek (Pangi). Just to share interesting fact about kluwek, it is a fruit that actually contains sianida. Although it is a small amount, it is necesaary to remove the sianida by soaking it is a running water for few days. Another option is like the Javanese did which is to bury it for 40 days until it change color to dark/black. This is why kluwek has black color. Back to rawon, this place is a long time favorite in the city. Also My fave. It is very savoury with few slice of meat. There are few additional side dish options such as telor asin (salted egg), perkedel (potato dumpling), and fried lungs. Also dont forget to add lime to add fresh taste to the soup. Highly recomended! Oh, and when you are about to pay, dont forget to check on how they calculate the price. 😁

Small portion for such prices (what i mean in here is, they only give 4 small chunks of beef), the rice portion is enough 1 portion of rawon cost 28.000, i was had another additional sides (paru & babat) which were costs 12.000 for each side (that wasn't even real meat! And you put prices that high??!!) what a pricey price huh🤔 for a local streetfood restaurant!!?? Moving on, about the taste of the rawon...umm...🤔.. i didn't found anything special about it :(( In addition, about the services, i didn't see anything stand out. They don't even have building (only tent) which is always hot in the middle of the day😒, well i still can tolerate about that condition, what kind of streetfood restaurant that has building?! None haha🤣. I personally won't visit this restaurant for the second time, don't recommended this restaurant to be visited. (sorry, just a honest review :(( no hurt feeling) i hope that they could improve the taste and service.

Walked past this restaurant & it didn't look amazing at first glance from the outside but when we peeked in, it was totally full with locals. We knew then it had to be good. We had to wait until someone left then we had seats. We ordered 1 nasi soto & 1 nasi rawon & added 2 perkedel (fried potato ball) and had their iced lemon tea & iced tea for drinks. Personally I felt the soup was too watery & lacked flavour. The meat chunks were well cooked - some more than others lol. Some bites were hard, some were tender. But overall it was still alright. Loved that their keropok is free flow (I think - we didn't pay for that) Iced lemon tea was kinda too sour but iced tea was great. We paid a total of IDR80,000 for 2 of us. A great meal overall👍🏼

Rawon kalkulator is located in Taman Bungkul or Bungkul Park, a well known spot in Surabaya. Rawon itself is one of signature dish in Java, Indonesia, consist of rice, meat and soup, which is very meaty. In this place you can order either Rawon or Soto, another meaty soup. The rawon is tasty, and you can add some additional snacks like tempe, paru or chips. But what attracks people to get here, beside the food, is the way the seller calculate the total price of your menus. He simply calculate it and mention it out loud (he shout it actually) without any help from calculator. Because he is calculator-human. Pretty interesting. In the rush hour, it'll be hard to find parking spot and seat, because it's swarming here.

I love rawon! It was my childhood staple and even now whenever I get the chance I always prefer it over anything else. This place is well-known for the fast calculating waiter, that's why the name "Kalkulator". But to be honest, the taste wasn't spectacular, I've eaten better Rawon even in Jakarta. I gave an extra star because the size of the meat cubes was huge and a lot, that is rather satisfying! I also love the fact that prawn cracker is included in the price. Well, honestly 25k is a high price for a street food stall, but of course if you love Rawon like I do, it won't hurt to try this place.
