DONATION & HEART BASED VEGAN LOCAL KITCHEN
Just wonderful!
In my first week on Gili Air I have been eating here every day from the day I found Dharma Kitchen and I will continue to do so.
As a Vegan, Vegetarian / Vegan Restaurants automatically have a special place in my heart but this place is extra special. I could feel that someone is trying to give and inspire from the heart rather than doing it in order to get something.
Today I had the pleasure to meet Zakki, the owner. He is such an inspiration. Vegan himself and running Dharma Kitchen out of pure love and dedication to inspire both locals and westerners to enjoy vegan Indonesian food, sit together while doing so and give what they can.
Zakki told me that he is from a small village where Veganism is judged but he kept making his own choices and inspiring others. He also used to be an activist against palm oil. At Dharma Kitchen he cooks with Coconut Oil instead which is a rare find in local restaurants and something I deeply value and appreciate.
On top of that the food is wonderful. High quality ingredients, great taste and changing options. From my experience, you'll usually find a Yellow Curry, stir fried veggies, tempeh & tofu and sambal.
I believe in energy and how the energy that is put into your food makes a huge difference. At Dharma Kitchen you can taste the love and passion so I will keep coming back to enjoy the wonderful food, have inspiring chats with Zakki when he is around and support a local business with good intention.
Thank you Zakki, keep doing...

Tucked away just off the path and easy to miss, Dharma Kitchen is a small hidden gem on Gili Air. This humble vegan buffet is run by a couple of friendly guys and is located beside a homestay. It’s open five days a week from 1pm (closed Mondays and, I believe, Thursdays), and offers a simple, nourishing menu that changes daily.
Today’s buffet included: • Yellow Curry – with papaya, long bean, eggplant, and tempeh • Simple Curry – featuring long bean, soy sprout, and corn • Sauté – soy sprout, long bean, and corn • Fried Tofu Tempeh
They don’t use MSG, and everything is cooked using coconut oil. There’s no set price – you simply contribute what you feel is fair to help support the kitchen.
Fresh, wholesome, and full of flavor – it’s the kind of place that makes you feel good from the inside out. A beautiful, low-key experience that reflects the spirit of the island. Highly recommend stopping by for a peaceful, plant-based lunch if you’re...
Read moreThe difference is in the way then envolve everyone into being part of the restaurante. Since we arrived we got a great explanation of the dishes and the way it worked by the Cook, super amazing and super friendly.
So the space is very small but it gives some familly vibes because of it and its also like mammas home, you just need to arrive, choose and serve in the plate what you want to eat and them seat down and enjoy your meal. After getting full of repeating (yes you can repeat, its a buffet vibe), you just need to pick up the things that you used to eat and get your hands into the sink to wash everything. You can choose to drink the water for free ir ask some juice ir other drink to the Cook for a fare price. After that the payment is for you to choose, putting the ammount you think it would be worth it um another restaurant.
In our case, was like eating Nasi Campur, so we established the price in 100k for two.
Thank you so much...
