Location : 4/5 It’s located in the center, easy to see from the street, but a little confusing to spot the entrance hahaha because it’s in the same building as a hotel Parking Spot : 4/5 Parking area is the same as hotel, even though they can accommodate around 10 cars (probably more) but place like this should expect more visitors with cars especially on weekends Interior : 5/5 Live up to the theme, and “instagramable” Service : 5/5 Each table got QR code and we order from the website. It’s very convenient. Order via waiter/waitress are possible as well. Food : 3/5 Personal favourite from my order was mushroom soup. The least favourite was fried tofu because it tastes like fried flour—I can’t taste the tofu at all. Vegetarian option was very limited, the menu didn’t say if we can ask for vegetarian option. Even meat house nowadays have plant-based menu. We don’t need special section, just put a symbol or something to indicate that we can ask for vegetarian/vegan option for certain menus Beverage : 5/5 Can’t complain about the drinks. It was good. Price : 3.5/5 It’s in the center of the city, in the tourist area, and the place was well maintenance. It was a little bit expensive, yes. But I can say, (almost) worth the price. Non Smoking Area : Very spacey, great for families or groups, they have a separate section for more private area. Smoking Area : Also spacey, but very hot and humid at noon on a sunny days. Better add more fan. Toilet : It was clean and didn’t smell Other Highlight : There’s live music performance on schedule.

I wasn’t impressed with this place. We were the only customers in the whole place so after I greeted them at the counter they said we could sit anywhere. I got a Cesar salad which was the saddest looking salad ever. There was one cherry tomato cut in half, a few black olives, half a dry and crusty looking hard boiled egg, fresh onion slices, a couple strips of smoked beef, a tiny sprinkle of powdered Parmesan cheese, and a handful of lettuce. The dressing didn’t taste like Cesar either. My son had a tiny order of French fries that was barely warm when it got to the table. Perfect for a two year old but it didn’t impress me. At least they have baby chairs. The strawberry juice was great with sugar syrup served on the side. The cappuccino was barely warm because they took so much care decorating it with a bare face. I got it when I was almost done eating my salad. I thought it was strange that my drinks and food were billed on separate receipts too. I would have given two stars but the bakery had an excellent almond cream croissant that we absolutely adored.

As a proud American I was hesitant to try any place in Indonesia that advertised themselves as having "American" fare but now I rest assured there is infact a unicorn of a place. It is called Roaster and Bear in Yogyakarta. The beef ribs can be eaten with simply a fork. The flavor was comparable to most beef ribs in the states and a little on the sweet side. No need for a wet wipe here after your dinner. The baked potatoes was well cook but not dry and the onion rings were crispy and didn't come out of a frozen bag. The grilled corn also added a taste of home (San Diego is known for elote). I had the fresh blended honey dew melon drink that even cam with a cane sugar syrup so that I may sweeten it to my taste. The service always arrived promptly and with a kind smile. The only thing is like to make an amend on (and I'm really on It picking here) are the size of the napkins. They are the size of a beer coaster. Otherwise I tip my hat to the good folks at Roaster and Bear. The United States could stand to take some noted from you.

Visit Roaster & Bear twice, the first is after their opening for couple dinner, and now for family dinner.

The place is strategic near city center and have plenty parking space within the hotel. Roaster & Bear is 2 floor restaurant with coffe & bakery shop. The ambience is lovely & homey. but their open kitchen exhaust is terrible, the smell & smoke of grill is everywhere and make uncomfortable for eyes.

The Waitress is friendly & responsive, they will come to clean your table after eating in no time. the food waiting time is moderate not too long or fast. The place is usually crowded with group dinner / romantic dinner too so be prepared for the noise.

My complaints are, i ordered course meal from salad to desserts, but they serve me the desserts first, then main course, after that they serve the (late) salads after we are already ate the main course. fix em’

Food always tastes great & savory (now & then) almost all of them from the deserts to salad, the wagyu spaghetti is a must try menu in here, the ovo melt for desert is a great closing.. they serve cheap beer too, nice addition. the drinks variety is good, the juice is mostly fresh too.

Will come again someday for sure, but its just a four star, fix that kitchen exhaust & order delivery sequence and i’ll give 5 star. Thanks for reading! hope...

From 5 stars to just 2 stars in 3 months. Roaster and bear became 3 months ago my favorite steak restaurant in the world. The steaks were even better than the ones that I ate in the USA. But we stayed this time in Harper Hotel and so my favorite restaurant was around the corner. But when we visited there were some changes. First of all the Kobe Beef was from the menu and they do not sell it anymore. Also they changed staff. Last time we checked it were students, and now it is just full time staff. The service went down because of this. Lots of mistakes. And also the most common thing that I hate in indonesia. If you order something, after a while they will come back with the message "I am sorry we do not have it anymore". This was repeated several times. I mean, just train your staff to know what is not available. Because it will save irritation from the customer. I guess, in order to have the best steak in Yogya, I have to head out to Holy Cow again. Not only because of the steaks, but also the mashed patatos did not taste like before ... It is a nice restaurant, but nothing special anymore. Amazing that this can happen in...
