I've been a customer of Tara's tea room for more years than I can remember. It's always a pleasure to visit. At no stage have I ever been made feel unwelcome, or treated poorly. Quite the opposite in fact. No matter if they're flat out busy they will always make room for you. The menu has some firm favourites (try the chicken goujons, or the eggs royale) along with daily specials. All cooked in house, and served on time, and without any fuss. You're always asked if you need anything else, you always have the full attention of the staff without any need to raise a hand. Smiles all around, and a thank you at the till. It's why so many people love Tara's. Cakes and sweet treats are a must, especially the apple sponges (if and when they're made) and the raspberry and almond tart. Slices are generous, and served hot ot cold with a decent dollop of cream. A little courtesy and patience goes a long way, as does a smile, a please and a thank you. You might struggle to enjoy yourself if you barrel in their cosy door with notions and an entitled attitude. You'll find staff need a little breathing space, as do customers, and when they're allowed to do their job without unnecessary pressure from rude and unpleasant individuals they excel. Decor is quaint and charming, with teas and coffees served hot in fine China and big comforting mugs. Afternoon tea is very popular, and if you're in the mood you can sip a cheeky vino or something sparkling.
Sparkling good people in Tara's. (Thanks for being awesome G & K) Its why...
Read moreWe ended up there three times! We popped in for a light lunch the day we arrived in Cork and jealously eyed the scones on another man's plate. We vowed to return for breakfast the next day and did. On both visits, our servers were friendly and the food was great. We started breakfast with the scones and didn't think to tell them to hold the toast with our eggs, so that was WAY too much. We told ourselves we should force ourselves to try another place for breakfast the next day and walked to a place that turned out to be closed. Fate had decided. We headed back to Tara's for an exact repeat of the previous breakfast with scones. The place is filled with natural light and mismatched seating and place settings/tea sets. There's a nice variety of fresh baked goods to choose from, and we spotted a new cake being frosted while we sat there. It was nice having a pot of loose leaf tea, as well. And there's outdoor seating, which is quite nice on a...
Read moreThis is a great place for coffee in Cork! I had a flat white and Full breakfast. The quality of both the coffee and the breakfast was amazing.
The tomatoes and mushrooms were grilled and super tasty and the butter was delicious! Same goes for everything else on the plate of course. The coffee was very good too.
The place is decorated in a very cute way with flowers and colours and the mismatch cutlery, saucers and cups make you feel you're in your grandmother's place. I have to say the toilets were very clean and also decorated in a pretty way.
Staff were very polite, the place was very busy but they tried their best to serve us asap.
The downside is that on a sunny day there's only two/ three tables that get to see / feel the sun.
But if I was living in Cork I'd definitely be a...
