Son of a Bun — Restaurant in Cork

Seeing the predominantly positive reviews of this place we were excited to eat a good burger here. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing..

1. This is a hamburger restaurant. Considering that they serve only hamburgers as mains it was baffling that they do not cook them to order. You can not be a serious hamburger restaurant if the only option is to have it cooked "well done". This implies that you either have no faith in their meat (freshness or quality) or you don't know how to cook it any other way which is quite worrying. As a result the meat was very dry and tasteless.

2. The brioche bun was inexplicably greasy. There is no reason for the bun to turn my fingers transparent every time I picked up the burger.

3. The angry fries was supposed to be spicy fries covered with blue cheese. What I got was limp fries drowned in hot sauce with a tiny sprinkle of blue cheese on one or two fries. You're better off to order regular fries and simply use the hotsauce that's already on the table. Unfortunately you will have to forgo the blue cheese, which you won't get anyway.

4. The Mac & Cheese should be simple enough to make but somehow they managed to overcook the pasta and forgot to include the additional bacon we had ordered (which we were still charged for). Taste wise it was nothing special either..

5. The crispy onion bits used for the S.O.B. were cold. I can understand if they are precooked but at least warm them up before serving!

6. Most of the burgers come with American cheese. I don't understand why this is - I had mine with cheddar instead which was very nice.

7. The restaurant itself is very noisy which is probably due to the architecture of the room. The high pointed roof ceiling reflects all the noise back down onto the tables which is a little unfortunate. Adding a (glass) divider in the middle of the room could help lessen the problem a little bit.

8. The staff were nice and apologetic about the bill not accurately reflecting what we were served.

I'm not a fond of burgers however today when I was hungry in the heart of Ireland, Cork City.. I thought I should try it because one of my friend recommended it once.

It took a while because there was a lot of customers and it was weekend so it was somehow busy (I think it is busy most times either way😅). Man I ordered Kimchi burger (this is with chicken meat lol, not vegetarian 😁) with a side of skinny fries... The burger came, tbh it was big and fries were a lot.. I just wish there were some kimchi salad besides it as it was written in the menu.

Now that burger was amazing.. Tasted Kimchi there and the chicken was crunchy, tasty and superb👌🏾🍗. It tasted so good. Didn't mind using my hands and eat like a child.. Used all tissues because the sauce was everywhere on my hands and my mouth (don't judge me lool that food was amazing).

Overall.. I like the place although I believe they can designed it better, present it better. The waiting period was a bit long but the customer service was really great. Also I think their prices are a bit higher compared to how the menu was written maybe that is because of the taste. I just wish there was more Kimchi.

Overall I recommend the place and their food. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take picture of the menu. But enjoy some pictures I took. Till...

Wen't in there to eat on my own to treat myself after a terible day, already felt anxious going in on my own and felt very overwhelmed i didn't notice that you'd have to wait until you're seated as i was so anxious and didn't pay attention to anything. as soon as i noticed i apolgized to my server ( who was very rude) and said that if it's okay i would like to order takeaway and that i wouldn't mind waiting outside (he had red hair, glasses and tattos) He kept telling me how he dosen't get how i could not notice that i have to wait to be seated and that i need to go now. After some time he spoke to his manager and the manager told him that i could stay. He came back around and said to me:"you can stay now but i still don't get it" in a very rude tone and loudly. I felt super uncomfortable during my entire stay as everyone heared what he said and how rude he was. I have apologized multiple times for my mistake and offered to wait outside, i had a terrible day and already felt anxious going out to eat on my own which is why i didn't pay much attention to my environment that day. what i am trying to say is, you never know what someone is going through or why they might do something, not everything is intentional and that we should treat all people nicely espacially if you work in customer service.
