I booked Maisie’s for a Hen brunch. I had to contact them multiple times to make the booking as no one was replying to my emails. When we arrived the venue was freezing cold, the mop bucket was out and there was no area for us to sit. We were a booking of 25 people and they gave us two very low tables to squeeze around. Despite booking 2 months in advance they were incredibly unprepared. I went to ask the managers what could be done but they spoke to eachother about some options and eventually I walked away because they were no help and our group was standing around waiting. We had no choice but to split up and sit separately. No manager came to speak to us or check on us but the chef did. We couldn’t fault the food it was delicious (although there were a few mistakes which we think was made by the waitress when she took the order). I didn’t think it was right to complain to her as she had done a great job with the food. We ended up leaving straight after eating as there was no atmosphere, the place was freezing cold and we were split up across the room. Although it was a poor start to a hen we moved to The Snug Bar down the road and they were more than...
Read moreAs a place to eat; Maisies is great. food is decent and reasonably priced. With a range of different cuisines to try.
I particularly like their wings, which go down great with a pint.
The decor is very quirky and almost feels like something straight out of the world of alice-in-wonderland
As a bar/late bar, however, the bouncers on the door can oftentimes be very ignorant. The age limit seems to be made up on the spot, especially when they initially opened the age limit changed every week and I'd often see snapchat stories from underage and people below the age limit I had been advised inside on the dance floor
Drinks are very overpriced compared with other bars around Athlone. There have also been many negative stories of people who have been spiked, which is scary to hear and seems to be the only bar I've heard it happening in.
Music is often too loud and can be hard to stand and talk with mates. The playlist also never seems to change, so going back twice in a month can give you a serious case of deja-vu.
Overall, it's an average spot. Would definitely be a 5-star experience if it's a once off visit but quickly loses it glamour after more...
Read moreWe were passing through Athlone on Sunday and had a baby with us, so we didn’t want to sit in. We rang ahead and asked if we can order takeout and it was ok. So we just asked for two best burgers they have with fries. We ended up waiting for 40 min anyway, but that’s fine as we seen staff was busy and the place had such an amazing reviews. When we went to pay, turned out they forgot to include fries and told us if we want them , we will have to wait longer… we just decided to go without them. We got our take away and left. When we opened the boxes it was a huge surprise as what was inside, was very disappointing. We asked for the nicest burgers they have, but what we got was two brioche buns slapped together with a lot of ketchup and mustard and you had to look hard to try to find some meat in there as it was paper thin. For the money we paid, we could get a better meals in Burger King and enjoy them more. Maybe staff thought it was some sort of a joke, but it wasn’t funny. And I don’t think we asked for anything extraordinary. And if the place doesn’t do take out, if it’s too confusing , maybe just say straight away, that you don’t...
