It get worse as it goes on - I visited Sandycove Store and Yard 02/11/24 to get 4 coffees. I was met with a very rude reception from the lady on the till who seemed completely fed up before I even began my order. I asked if they did puppuccinos and scoffed at and told no, no worries. The girl on the till repeated my order to me and I confirmed that two of the drinks were oat milk which was taken very offensively, which I apologised for and went to wait for my coffees. The barista produced 3 coffees and I simply asked was there not one more cappuccino on the order and was shouted back that there wasn’t. I apologised and asked could I have one more cappuccino and I’ll run and pay for that too, to which again I was told that he would never make coffee without payment first. No problem! I went back over to the till to wait to reorder and was met with death stares as I waited to order. I walked back up to the till and asked to order one more cappuccino and the girl and the till said “let me tell you something first, when I read your order back to you, you need to LISTEN..” and she continued to scold me, I was speechless. I then just asked could I have the cappuccino, after an eye roll and silence I paid and eventually got it. I have never been spoken down to like that, especially by someone in the service industry. Small side note: there was a family ahead of me with a child with an egg allergy looking to know which of the treats didn’t contain egg and they were met with a similar reception of “I don’t know”, “just assume they all have egg” and were talked down to. In short, they live up to their reputation of horrible customer service. I would understand if it was a once off or if customers were difficult but it seems too common for that. 10/10 would recommend...

This review is about sustainability only! 🙂

By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. And over 95% of the plastic that we recycle does not actually get recycled, but rather ends up in landfills, incinerators, or in our waters. These plastics break down into micro plastics, which are severely impacting human health, let alone the health of other species.

I was heartened to see that you do, indeed so much of your food in reusable containers for dining in. But I was also noticing where single used plastics were prevalent, like for water, cups, and for ginger shots.

Because you clearly are able to provide reusable dishes for meals, I wonder how you could further eliminate single use plastics from the rest of your menu. Perhaps by providing reusable water cups for those staying to enjoy their meal on the premises, and same with the ginger shots.

It feels antithetical to be a café and a sauna house in a waterfront town, that is contributing to the plastic pollution crisis. I understand that avoiding plastics at all cost can be difficult as a small business, but I wonder where you may be able to review the plastics you are serving, and see where you can lessen them.

Thank you for helping your customers be better to the environment. I trust that all of us would like the opportunity to do better by this earth, and to do better by these very coastlines that we are coming to visit and learn from.

Lovely food, lovely service, now would love to see less plastic. Thank you for...

I usually have loved this place every time I've been there. But we had an unpleasant experience last time. We booked the sauna for 12 people for a BD party, but unfortunately, that day things weren't working as usual. One sauna, and one of the cold tubs were out of order, which made it very difficult for us to take turns. We also discovered there was no pizza menu anymore. Which wasn't informed when we consulted about the food for this day. I know now this is due to menu rescheduling. But options are now very limited for lunch on the weekends, when it's more crowded. I think they can be a bit more careful with big reservations. When I asked for food reservations, I was told they're aware of having enough food options when they knew a big group was coming. However, this didn't happen that day. Again, I know this can happens, specially around summer holidays. But ended up not having the best experience on a very...

The worst acai bowls we've had. Didn't finish mine. I recommend you ask Park Lane Deli Chapelizod for some tips on how to prepare an acai bowl. We ordered two bowls and an espresso. I reckon the person on coffee duty made the espresso before the acai bowls were ready because when we collected them the espresso was colder than the acai. It had obviously been sitting there. Atmosphere was weird. Very untidy, and tatty looking place. Full of women who don't have to work, sitting around in dry robes. We realized that was probably why we couldn't find parking anywhere - the swimmers had landed. Nearly 22 euro for two awful acai bowls and one espresso. No. Thanks.

This is a gem of a place - 2 great saunas, cold baths and a hot tub - all with lovely quiet music and scent sticks. Trevor and his team do a great job prepping the sauna and keeping it at sufficient temperatures at all times. There’s a cool shower (water coming out of a surfboard), changing space, lockers. Guys bring ice as well and there’s an ice bath there you can do Wim Hof method workshops. And treat yourself to good coffee, pastries afterwards - and if you’re lucky you can enjoy the sun in the inner year next to the sauna barrels. We love this place and keep coming back at least once a week for the past several months. Highly recommend!
