I had the worst fish and chips I've had in years in Gibney's. The fish was absolutely heaving, dripping and pouring with grease. To make matters worse it was plonked directly on top of the chips, so although I soaked up some bit of the grease by wrapping the fish with the sole tissue on the table, it had already drowned the chips and didn't make much of a difference anyway, except that I now had nothing with which to wipe the grease from my hands. I had asked the waitress for butter for the peas, which I placed on top of them and after a few minutes noticing it hadn't melted, I tasted the peas to find that they were absolutely stone cold. I mean freezing. The tartare sauce was not freshly prepared, it was store bought and cheaply produced. They serve far highly quality tartare sauce in my local chipper. Altogether an appalling excuse for a meal. The Gibney's kitchen staff clearly don't give a damn. I'll...
Read moreOur First visit, Time 2:15 Tuesday, generally quite inside. My order was a tuna sandwich & soup. Previously prepared order to was an egg & onion sandwich. The cutting board was barely cleaned down, food just wiped away with a gloved hand. My sandwich was then assembled on the board. Clearly visible remnants of the previous egg & onion sandwich, which ended up on my sandwich. My companions sandwich (Ham salad )was again made in the same board, so she had a Ham Salad sandwich with bits of egg, onion & tuna a from the previous two sandwiches. We were directed to take a table. Couldn’t find one that was clean, we sat down at a dirty table. The waitress came with our food, wiped the food off the table with the same gloved hand that had prepared our food & onto the floor. I have to say I was not impressed & would have serious doubts about the general hygiene around food preparation in this...
Read moreI'm sorry to say, but this pub was a disappointment. We'd asked the tour centre at the church for recommendations on where to eat and they suggested this place, and I'm sorry we went. The atmosphere was great on the upstairs outdoor patio, but my real disappointment was in the food - which was why we went. The drinks were good, but my boyfriend ordered the chicken burger and I ordered the bacon and sausage sandwich and wow. My boyfriend said the chicken burger was like eating a chicken nugget sandwich and my bacon and sausage sandwich was literally just that. A slice of sausage and bacon between two pieces of bread. No cheese, no lettuce, no tomato, no mayo, no mustard. Nothing. Out of a two week stay in Europe, this was by far the most disappointed we'd been at a restaurant. If you want drinks and atmosphere, certainly go here, but if you're looking for a good meal go...
