One Squared — Restaurant in Fingal

Everything was good, especially the coffee. The flat white was delicious. Food was also great. I recommend the avocado poached eggs. I was on a holiday from Germany and dropped in three times for breakfast. The only thing weird I recognized in two of my three visits was that the young people doing the service there, where a bit unprofessional. On the Saturday, there was a young blonde waitress, who obviously couldn’t handle the quite busy situation she was in. I waited a long time for her to take my order and while I was aware, it was really busy, I kindly approached and asked her if it was possible to at least take the order. The reaction was a big rolling of eyes and after that she treated me with an intentional ignorance so I would recognize. On my last visit, when I was ordering something, the young waiter directly after went behind the counter to talk to his colleague, finger pointed at me, said something and both started laughing. After I was confronting him if I said something wrong, mispronounced or misunderstood something (hence I am German in a foreign country) he wouldn’t say. Would have been nice, he would have had the decency to let me know what was going on to correct my language mishaps accordingly...

The food was genuinely good — no complaints there. However, the overall experience was affected by the attitude of some of the staff. Upon entering, we were immediately asked if we had a reservation, despite the place being mostly empty. While we understand there may have been bookings for later, the way it was communicated — along with a pointed “don’t stay after 7 PM” — felt unnecessarily unwelcoming.

As we were preparing to leave, our kids briefly stepped toward the door and we were promptly told to keep them seated, as they shouldn’t be left unattended. We completely understand safety concerns, but this could have been communicated with more grace — especially when it was clear we were on our way out.

That said, one staff member stood out with their warm and courteous approach — much appreciated. Unfortunately, the rest seemed to carry themselves as if they were running a luxury five-star hotel.

With this kind of attitude, “One Squared” might just live up to its name — stuck at one, instead of growing into...

We went here at short notice on a Sunday evening. It was very quite as there was a big football match on. Staff were very nice with a warm welcome. There is a nice selection on the menu. I ordered Pil Pil prawns which were gorgeous. Mains came out however one was wrong, as the waitress miss heard my daughter's order. Mistakes happen but it's how they are sorted is important in my opinion. Waitress was very apologetic and we only had a short wait for her dish to arrive. The manager brought out that dish apologising again and told us we would not be charged for it. My daughter said it was worth the wait. All for of us were in agreement that the food was very good. I had a steak and it was excellent. So even with the little hiccup I have no hesitation in leaving a 5 star review. We will definitely...
