Had been here last year and really impressed but our return trip this year was not as impressive mainly due to wait staff disappearing for long periods. We were seated upstairs which meant that we were probably more out of the way of the main action downstairs but it seemed that the staff were stretched thin on this particular night. Food (when it came) was tasty but my food came on a cold plate meaning that the skewered prawns were also cold when I got them and the rest of my food was not as warm as it should have been either (no hot plate/lights in kitchen or maybe it was broken?). Now, on the plus side, the prawns were delicious and the rest of the dish was good too so I didn't make a big deal of it. I don't know - maybe they run on a skeleton crew, maybe it was just an "off" night, maybe they were short-staffed due to illness or maybe they were just busier than expected (Dingle seemed much busier after the October bank holiday this year than in previous years). They didn't push desserts either (maybe thankful not to have the extra load as maybe struggling to cope with what was there already). However, it didn't seem unmanageably busy when we were leaving so who knows. To be fair, staff were friendly enough and did seem to be aware of delays as they generally were apologising for same when they did appear. In its favour, there's a great menu choice there and the rest of family were quite happy with their food too. So, all in all, a bit of a mixed experience. We will still likely go back in future years when in Dingle but perhaps with slightly lowered expectations in regards to...
Read moreEvery time I post a foodie review, I talk about my partner’s seafood orders but I always opt for something different. But in Tullamore, I tried Ethan’s fish and chips and they were unlike any seafood I’d had. So good. And left me craving them all over again. So in Dingle at James Long, as we sat directly beside the ocean, it only made sense that I ordered my own.
🍽️ Dingle Bay Beer Battered Fish & Chips of the Day | This was my order and I grubbed into some of my very own fish and chips with so much joy. I hate to say it still wasn’t on the level of Browne’s in Tullamore, but still pretty darn good. I have been converted, but only in Ireland.
🍽️ Daily Special Seafood Platter | Ethan got one of the daily specials that came with three different types of fish and shrimp on top. There was also a vegetable mix and of course since we’re still in Ireland, there were potatoes involved. He scraped up this big boy plate and super enjoyed it. All fresh catches from the local bay.
🍸 Irish Coffee & Hot Toddy | The weather was pretty 0/10 with pouring rain that was freezing cold so we hung our wet jackets and got these hot drinks immediately. They were just what we needed.
This town was a cute stop with great fresh seafood and awesome sights. I’m so glad we got this local...
Read moreThe place is centrally located, right in front of the harbour, which makes it a popular spot for people passing by. I've been there for both lunch and dinner. It's a classic Irish pub, offering a variety of meat and fish dishes. They also have a decent selection of pizzas on the menu. In addition to beer, they serve cocktails as well. The service is quite efficient, and the bathrooms are fairly clean.
As for the food, I ordered fish and chips along with some onion rings. Everything was good, although not the best fish and chips I've ever had. The portion was generous, and I appreciated that it was served not only with the traditional mushy peas but also with a sauce and a side of red cabbage. The onion rings were tasty, seasoned with various spices, and served with a side salad. However, they were a bit soggy. I also had some chicken wings. They were served whole, unlike other places where only the wingettes are served. Apart from a few slightly burnt wings, they were pretty good with the sauce.
Unfortunately, they made a mistake with the order, and I ended up paying for fries that I didn't order. But overall, it's a laid-back place where you can grab a quick bite...
