Stopped into O’Sullivan’s Courthouse Pub in Dingle on a lazy afternoon, and enjoyed a quiet pint of Guinness.
Forgive the 1 star for food, as I don’t know if they do food or have any food, I didn’t notice anything and was only there for 1 Guinness.
The quiet wasn’t a bad thing - at this time of day we were the only people here. The bar man was friendly, it felt like stepping back in time a little bit as I quietly sat in some local history.
The walls had some fun graffiti, I didn’t have a pen or anything interesting to write, but if I did I may have tried to add something. I loved learning about how things were once upon a time for the courthouse in Dingle.
I walked in purely because my last name was Sullivan, and that seemed as good a reason as any for a beer here.
I think the owners of the Pub are musicians - and the space does look like the sort of place where on the right night, with the right gig on, it would be a great place to be. But as an introvert who had spent the day exploring, I was very happy to be here on a quiet afternoon. Regardless of your surname, or the time of day, if you’re in Dingle and this place is open, consider popping in for a beer - or...
Read moreI visited the pub with a friend for the first time on August Bank Holiday weekend. It was long awaited trip. The town was busy, but for me there was only one place to to - to see Tommy and another local musician Jeremy Spencer playing the fiddle.
I had first seen Tommy in the late 1980s in London where he along with many others was part of the strong Irish pub scene. He returned to Ireland I think in the early 1990s and I have followed him on and off over the past 30 years years and its was great to see him performing again live with new fresh material and it lovely to hear renditions of trad songs like the Galway Shawl and Peggy Gordon.
The pub was busy , but people listened attentively to the music in lovely comfortable surroundings and with good service from the bar.
I will definitely be going back .If you want the authentic Irish trad sound and a good atmosphere then make your way to the Courthouse in Dingle. I never met Saundra his wife main co musician on his latest CD , but I can vouch she adds to the quality of the...
Read moreA fantastic pub! It was our favourite place in Dingle. We were there last Wednesday 4th September. We wandered in in the afternoon...there was a group of Americans being educated by a harpist and an uilleann pipes player on their instruments. We thought it was a private party but the lovely barman, Mícheál, assured us we were welcome to stay. He was very friendly. We came back later that night again for another fantastic live music session and he even remembered what drinks we wanted! The place was heaving, great atmosphere. A lovely old building...if you're tall, mind your head due to the low beams! But this just adds to the charm of the place. We highly recommend it and thanks Mícheál...you're fantastic at what you do and we had a great time! From Orla (Dublin) and Thomas...
