In summary, Charlie Foley's Bar is not just a place for a night out; it's a destination for building fond memories. It's where excellent service, great drinks, delicious food, and fantastic music converge, creating an unforgettable experience every time. This place was lovely. I'm glad I stopped in for lunch. I had their salt and chilli chicken and a Guinness. The food was brought out to me quickly and very fresh. The chicken with the garlic mayo was great, it was just what I needed for lunch. My server was amazing and got me everything I needed quickly. The atmosphere was cozy inside and I just love getting to sit outside when the weather permits. This is a great place to eat in Killarney.

We came by for some drinks but it seemed that some of the lines might need cleaning. All of our beers had some skunk to it and tasted different than other places. No issues otherwise and it was a fun place to visit. I don’t think they deserve a bad rating for that so we might try it again in a few days.

⭐ 1 Star – Disgraceful Treatment by Staff. Absolutely Do Not Recommend.

I would give zero stars if I could. I have never in my life been treated with such arrogance, hostility, and outright disrespect by a hotel employee – let alone at a place I booked and pre-paid to stay in.

I booked a single room and clearly selected the ‘late check-in’ option, as I knew I’d be arriving later than usual due to transport connections. On arrival that evening, I was completely calm, respectful, and entirely sober – despite having had three drinks earlier in the evening, which any adult is entitled to.

To my shock, the man at the front desk /bar who I assume was a manager – took one look at me and flatly refused to let me check in. His exact words were “You've had too much" There’s no way you’re going upstairs here tonight.” I was stunned. I was polite, firm, and even explained that I’d arranged the late check-in in advance. His response was nothing short of disgusting.

To make matters worse, he tried to claim that check-in was only between 2 and 5pm – a laughable excuse considering I had already declared a late arrival and had paid in full for the room. When I asked for a refund, I was met with indifference. I had to fight to even get him to verbally confirm I would be refunded. €100 for single occupancy room above a loud pub...I’m still chasing that refund to this day.

As if this humiliation wasn’t enough, he also questioned whether I intended to sneak a second guest into the room – simply because a friend happened to walk in with me. I had booked the room for one person. I told him that. Yet he made underhanded accusations and implied I was trying to cheat the system. It was degrading, insulting, and completely baseless.

Because of this man’s attitude, I was left stranded that night with nowhere to stay, during a time when everything nearby was booked out and I couldn’t afford alternative accommodation. I was left with no choice but to call someone for help late at night, which not only put me in a vulnerable position, but could have easily led to a much more serious outcome if I hadn’t had that option. The lack of care or duty of care from this hotel is appalling.

A woman travelling alone, If anything had happened to me that night, it would have been directly on this hotel and that man. I won’t hesitate to say that.

I travel regularly and I’ve never experienced anything this outrageous. This wasn’t a misunderstanding. This was judgmental, aggressive behaviour from a man who should never be allowed near a front desk or any form of customer service.

To anyone considering staying here: don’t. This one staff member not only was unprofessional – he is downright dangerous in how he treats guests. I felt unsafe, ashamed, powerless and basically ruined my business weekend!

Avoid this place...

Stood here for a couple of nights all the way back in 2012. When we first arrived with our B&B vouchers they said they didn't accept it (we could've known if we'd done our research but we didn't). Worn down from the bustrip from Cork, we sat down when suddenly a Frenchman that happened to be sitting at the bar offered to pay for 2 double rooms! It's a memory that'll always stick with us and it was a wonderful stay due to both the Frenchman and Charliefoleys.

He told us something had happened to him in the past and he was told to pay it forward if the chance arose. We got the same advice from him and we will be sure to do so when we...
