Went to drivers for the first time to try out their menu. I found it was quite expensive for a pub. The menu didn’t really appeal too much and most things are overpriced. I decided to have the special which was a spag bol basically although the name they had on it….we were told was the pasta’s name. It look like a tagliatelle pasta to me. Anyway it was very flavoursome but the downside was…I don’t think the fat was drained off in the cooking process so there was too much of fat residue on the plate. The bread on top was also flavoursome…buttery and crunchy but it didn’t need to be on top of the sauce. This made it messy to eat…just off to the side would have been sufficient. I thought the portion should have been a bit better for the price attached.
My wife had the veg soup…it was very thick and she enjoyed it…it came with 2 slices of brown bread. We shared a pistachio cheesecake which was beautiful, really enjoyed it. Decent portion as well. Then it was a latte for her and a lucozade for me. The total was €43 which I thought was expensive.
I think they’re trying to be like an upmarket restaurant and attach those prices but it’s just a pub and it should be more pub grub food than upmarket dishes with higher pricing. There were far too many flies in the eating area for my liking to call it anything other than a pub with the front door open all day. Although I liked the dishes, I couldn’t justify myself paying the prices again. It was worth trying though. The decor needs to be updated though to match what they’re trying to sell themselves as but if they’re going for a rustic look, then a rustic menu would...
Read moreFirst time visiting Drivers and have to say it won't be my last. The service was fantastic, we arrived (party of 4) with no booking and were told a table would be ready shortly and we could have a seat at the bar while we waited. We were seated after about 10mins and given the menus. To say that the variety of dishes would suit everyone would be an understatement. I chose the steak on the stone, it was mouth watering, and still hot by the time I got to the last piece of steak. It was accompanied by sauté onions and mushrooms with chips that I could happily eat forever. There was also a Trio of sauces/Dips with it. I highly recommend this dish to anyone. I was so full after it I couldn't eat a dessert and I would have died for the salted caramel profiteroles, maybe next time. The nostalgia of the Babysham glasses and bottles in the press were a great talking point. I would highly recommend Driver at the 19th...
Read moreThis used to be a really good restaurant but their standards have seriously dropped. Ate there on 16th Oct, I order the Korean BBQ Rip and my wife ordered Salmon. The waitress came back and said there was no salmon but they had sea bass. My wife said no to the sea bass and asked for chicken instead. When our meals arrived my wife was given sea bass. She explained she had ordered chicken and the sea bass was taken away. The waitress came back and said it would be a 20 min wait for the chicken. To give context, there was a total of 4 people at two tables at the time so you cannot say the kitchen was under pressure. My wife ended up having a very small dish of vegetables and mash potato as her meal. My rib was fatty, greasy and the meat was difficult to pull loose. Poor food and poor service so we will not...
