Absolutely awful place. Frankly, the only reason a place like Prego in Clonmel even exists is because, sadly, we live in a town where people could eat garbage and still call it “lovely.” That probably explains the high ratings — either from people who have never had actual pizza (not even great pizza, just decent pizza), or from those with very low standards.
Let’s start with the pizza itself. The dough is completely tasteless and has the consistency of old chewing gum. It’s clearly rolled with a pin (a massive no-no in pizza making), instead of being hand-stretched — which would give it proper elasticity and texture. But I doubt the owner has ever even heard of that.
The tomato sauce tastes weird and industrial — like it's made from some generic brand. Honestly, even a 99-cent passata from Lidl would taste better. And as for quality brands like Mutti? That would probably be news to them — budget ingredients are clearly the standard here.
The mozzarella? Of course, it's the cheapest, pre-shredded, bought-in-bulk stuff you can find. Real pizzerias use fresh mozzarella balls — sliced and laid on by hand. But that would require care and effort, so instead they just sprinkle the cheapest mix they can find. The toppings are no better — bland, low-grade vegetables and tasteless meat that add nothing but disappointment.
To be honest, my wife and I regularly make pizza at home, in a basic oven that hits 300°C — and it’s a hundred times better than what we were served here. That’s why we never go back. It’s a waste of time waiting, and a waste of money paying for something so poorly made.
It’s genuinely a shame. I’d rather pay more for something actually good — something that doesn’t make me regret the experience. But unfortunately, in a beautiful town like Clonmel, options like this leave...
Read moreThis is such an inconspicuous place, inside of a local shop, but believe me, these guys make the best pizza around! They are knowledgeable and passionate about their craft, and they use good quality ingredients. And this is a proper real pizza I'm talking about here (it simply cannot be compared with some cheap versions of pizza-like fast food that Domino's, FourStar or Apache make). And by the way, they have the top of the shelf, most expensive, professional pizza oven in Ireland and they do know how to use it ;) And it's just incredible that this delicious Prego pizza is so inexpensive. I live in Cork City, but whenever I'm driving or motorcycling somewhere around, I always swing by to grab a pizza there. P.S. They don't have any room for tables inside so they only...
Read moreHorrible experience. The driver was an old dude who couldn't follow the eircode (his words), made me stand outside in the rain for 10 minutes. Was yelling on the phone and also when he finally arrived. He asked for extra 10 euros for delivery because apparently an eircode that says clonmel in the address and is 5.3km from the shop is not in clonmel. I called the restaurant who put me through to the manager and he said, 'all I can do is apologize'. When I, clearly furious, said that not a good first time experience, he stated that it's okay if we don't order again as that's all he can do. Can't say anything about the taste as the pizza was not just cold but wet. First bad food delivery and customer service...
