Pizzeria Del Capitano — Restaurant in The Municipal District of Tullamore

Food always 10 out of 10 but had a few bad experiences lately. Had to book a time slot last October just before the lockdown, everything was very rushed as they had another booking after us and we were eventually asked to leave. I understood that they were under a lot of pressure with the restrictions/covid so said I'd give the place another try when things settled down a bit. Went out for a meal again a few weeks ago, wasn't sure if they had non alcoholic wine on the menu so brought our own and asked could we use our own as someone at the table doesn't drink alcohol, the waiter said that was no problem at all and brought out glasses. A few minutes later a waitress arrived at the table and said they don't usually let people bring their own 'wine' and they would have to charge a corkage fee. We didn't have an issue with the fee but thought it wasn't very professional and made it slightly awkward for the person involved. I ordered a vegetarian pizza from Pizzeria Del Capitano and I felt like I was transported to Italy. The pizza was delivered on time and it was still hot and fresh. The crust was thin and crispy, and the cheese was melted and gooey. The toppings were generous and varied, including mushrooms, olives, basil, and tomatoes. The sauce was rich and flavorful, with a hint of herbs and spices. The pizza was large enough to feed two people. The price was reasonable and the service was friendly and efficient. I enjoyed every bite of the pizza and I appreciated the authentic Italian taste and quality. The pizza was made with fresh ingredients and cooked in a wood-fired oven, just like in Italy. After seeing the great reviews and mouthwatering photos of the pizzas here I drove the one hour journey to try. It was disappointing, our starters never came and main course was served first. I ordered the pizza without chicken and chicken came on it. Something about the pizza was just dry and hard to eat. Could have been the amount of chicken on it. My partners pizza was nothing special either.

Anyway the amount of excellent reviews must count for something so I'm going to put this down to a once off and still give these guys a good rating. Unfortunately I won't be risking another 40euro for two pizzas...
